Would it be possible to swap in a JDM or Euro ecu? Would there be any complications? What would be the difference between theirs and ours. I don't see anyone cracking our ecu anytime soon. Looking for tunability for turbo when I can afford it :-)

pretty sure it wont run smoothly, the ecu is setup to run on a different oct gas. could be some problems there...

Actually, the octane in US and Japanese gas is very similar, if not the same. They just use different numbers to come up with their octane rating. They only use the RON rating, while we use RON + MON / 2 (aka PON).

RON = Reasearch Octane Number (higher number)
MON = Motor Octane Number (lower number)
PON = Pump Octane Number (what we use).

So basically 98 over there is about 93 over here.

ahhhh, hmmmm really? didnt know that, thought japan/euro gas was a bit higher... ok.

but still dont know how a jdm/euro ecu would work on a us celica, their car are rated with a bit more hp. dont really know, just have to try it out?

I would think your emmsions control would get ****ed up

from what I understand the t sport gets the 10 extra hp rating cause they add trd exhaust as stock. the Msport might have diff cams but I havent hear any definite answers on this. Most of the turbos have been using the Power fc and seen to do quite well!!! hope that helps!!!

wouldnt you have already needed a jdm ecu to run a jdm motor?

nope... runs good.. just hesitates at stops and have no lift.

Don't they have high octane to be used over in japan.

From Internet research (hmm...:gap:), I think the best JDM gas is 100RON, about 95 by our measure. So they do get higher octane gas.

does this mean for off road use w/ a jdm ecu we could get rid of all our gay fricken emmisions control systems cause myn keeps throughing codes

It runs strongs but I still need the JDM ECU for my lift!!! WHERE CAN I FIND IT!!! ARGH... I can't live without LIFT!

Are you sure you don't really have a GT, that could explain the lack of lift...

I don't believe a JDM ECM will work properly in a USDM spec car. Most of the time the sensors are different. Generally when you swap a Toyota JDM engine into a USDM car with a USDM ECU you also have to switch the sensors so everythig operates as designed. This could be your problem, XeroDgrees

why did you buy a jdm motor in the first place?

XeroDgrees

Why not?
more power! I got it for one hell of a deal!!! So, I grabbed it!

How many other people in US have em?

it can be done. Just change every electronic thing associated with ECU. I am sure people have done it with other imports...its a matter of really wanting to do it, have expertise and the money.

Actually the JDM and US models have the same engine, but it appears that the JDM model has more power because they measure hp differently.

same engine.....but set up differently! haha

That's why I need the jdm ECU! durrr
