try a test patch in a small spot...did you use a sealant with the dye?

Use Simple Green or some other degreaser first, then sand the plastics down a little to get rid of any trace of the Armor All. It will definitely repel the dye.

Ah. I wouldn't use Armor All period. I've never seen a good review of the stuff (smells bad, too glossy/oily/slippery, parts seem to degrade faster, etc.). Use Vinylex. It's made for plastic, vinyl, and rubber.

Nope, Vinylex is made to restore the plasticizers that eventually evaporate and come out of the plastic/vinyl/rubber, which is what causes them to dry and crack in the first place. If you smell it, Vinylex actually smells like plastic. :) Armor All just covers evertything up, and possibly even drys it out as well (probably uses silicone, which is bad for the above materials).

FL Honda Stompr, if the reason that you are interested in applying amor-all to your dash is to make it shiny, why don't you just dye the dash with the level of gloss that you want in the first place? It doesn't have to be a flat matte color if you don't want it to be, you should be able to get an automotive refinishing supply place to mix up a batch of dye with any level of gloss that you want.

I wouldn't recommend using any type of cleaner other than soap and water if you painted your dash. All that other stuff has chemicals that can break down the paints. What product did you use to paint your dash? If it was SEM, then definately do not use Armor All.

If you can, use the high gloss clear so you can have that permanent shine and just clean it with warm soap and water.

if you've ever used armor all on your door/sunroof/window mouldings, when you lift the towel you can sometimes see traces of black. by about the 6th or 7th application on my 95 del Sol BITD, my mouldings were nearly completely grey

armor all = bad

vinylex is good, zaino bros vinyl stuff is good, meguiars natural shine is decent, you get what you pay for

Jorge The thing is, SEM vinyl dye is actually sprayable liquid vinyl, so once it cures (a week at the most), it should be safe to use Vinylex on it.

I have to dissagree. I was at their R/D lab for an entire week learning all about and how to use their products and I specifically asked them that question. John and Tony told me to use only soap and water. It is not liquid vinyl, it is flexible solvent based paint. Anything that may contain solvent will "heat" it up and allow it to become soft again and get ruined. If you don't believe me, call them up and ask them yourself. 704-522-1006, ask for Tony or R&D lab.

I'm not trying to argue, I just don't want someone that spent all that time preping and painting to ruin their work. It sucks when something you spend a lot of time in gets messed up.
