Kazuma Ticket #2.
Got rolled again.
Cop: Liscence and registration
Me: here you go officer.
Cop: Y is your car still loud. Ill be back.
10 minutes later
Cop: I made it so you dont have to go to court. If you do just dont fill or mail out the form. Get it fixed.
THE END
I saw him pull someone over and then when he got done he followed me for 300ft and pulled me over. $120 ticket. I think I am going to fight this one he didnt even ask me to rev my car and never gave me a decible reading ticket.
Any advice????
Court date is set to 5/4/2012.
What happens if I dont pay and wait for the courtdate??? Will my car still be hot????? And will cops still be after me?

Here is the violation code # thing

Sec. 12-602. Mufflers, prevention of noise.

No such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass or similar device. No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all the requirements of this Section.

does your state require to take it to a station to check out the certificate to the part # of the exhaust?

Dude. Quit being a dildo. Get a decent exhaust you can live with and have a cut-out installed for your track days. That thing's probably, technically, too loud for autocross as well. I understood there was a decibel limit for events. *Shrug*

LOL. Let me tell you what grabs their attention. It's the tip. Get a 2.5 inch tip on there or get a tip that turns downward. It'll reduce the noise with NO detriment to power but it'll look a little dumb.

Also, moar resonator. Right off the cat big long resonator and put a bend in the piping where the OE muffler was. Bends help cancel noise.

it sounds like two gay men slapping together balls to balls ass ****ing at 4000 RPM.
Changing the tone to a lower one will also not grab as much attention. Resonators do that, they absorb high frequency without hurting flow. The closer the resonator is to the engine the better it works as high freq sound attenuates out in the pipe, so whatever is left will be drown out just by the piping. There is plenty of room on the exhaust for a resonator off the engine. Do it.

If you go to court you pay court fees. You're using the court, they don't care. You have to pay for the time and paper work involved.
Trust me on this exhaust thing. If you don't want to hack it the get a new resonated straight pipe made. 2 36" resonators will deepen the tone and make it sound quieter than it is. I helped a friend de-drone his eclipse with a Greddy Evo 2. Went from unable to hold a conversation to a very comfortable car with a nice deep deep tone.

What? If you win and you clear your charges, you don't pay anything. At least that has been my experience.

cops in florida really dont care about anything. Some ricey hondas with little fart cannons making my ears bleed if i dont put up the windows and not a single ticket.
My old ansa silver line on my GT was huge and loud, i used to gun it straight down major roads with cops present. Heck i even road with no tail lights for a good month or three not a single stop.

I emailed the cheif of police from the town and this is what he sent me.
Hello Mr. Nuguid,
I am not sure of the circumstances why your exhaust was loud, i.e. faulty or modified exhaust system, but I will presume your exhaust was significantly loud for the officer to take notice. I’m hopeful that the officer wrote the ticket under a local offense - P ticket versus on a State format –WO, so that it doesn’t affect your driving record and the fines are less. We don’t have nor use decimal meters to test noise, typically reasonableness can tell when the exhaust is too loud. I don’t like to get involved in these situations, you may want to weigh your options of going to court or simply paying the citation and dismissing it as a lesson learned.
Good luck,
Ken Boehm

DECIMAL meters!?!? BOL Astounding, the level of ignorance and the heights to which it is promoted. Then there's the whole concept of how they can regulate anything when they don't even know how to measure it, let alone have the tools.
All that said, your ****'s loud and annoying.

Go to court and use the Chief of Police's email to you, specifically quoting "We don’t have nor use decimal meters to test noise." You then ask if they go through special training and are certified to judge decibel levels without a meter" If not then how can the cop state for FACT that your exhaust is to loud. Case dismissed.

So, spend a whole day at court, pay court fee's vs go to work.
Oh and the judge may simply send you to go get it tested within a certain time frame or just stand by the officers assertion.

Don't always believe what an officer tells you about court. Either they just don't know, know the wrong thing, or sometimes even lie just to shut you up.

IDK my arguements are
1. NO decibal reading was taken
2. The letter
3. I dont get pulled over at my college campus with more cops there than I see on the road
4. Motorcycles and Harley's
5. It took a year to get me for my first loud car ticket.

1. Officer says it was too loud, then it's too loud.
2. Not evidence
3. Can't catch every fish in the sea
4. Different sound level regulations
5. See 3
The judge can do whatever he wants with this. He can fine you, he can send you to get it tested, or he can dismiss it. Are you really going to appeal if he upholds the officers ticket? Your exhaust is illegally loud, it's breaking the law. You know this, the officer knows this. Your best bet at a 'win' is to plead ignorance and lie that a pipe had rusted off and you were on your way to get it fixed. Then, get some bull**** proof it was fixed to take in with you.

I didnt even rev it. Once I pulled over I shut the car off. The Kazuma is quiet at the right RPM's. In 6th gear at 1.5k Its like a normal car.

I've had the kazuma exhaust and there are absolutely NO RPMs that you can be in to have it even remotely sound like a "normal" car. Even at idle, the damn thing is freakin loud.
If you keep the kazuma exhaust, you WILL continue to get pulled over for it. Since you're on your 2nd ticket for this thing, you should realize by now that the exhaust is too loud. The kazuma is in no way, shape, or form a quiet exhaust. It was meant for track use only for a reason. There is NO muffler. All it really is, is a straight through pipe with a TRD tip.
As for trying to fight this thing in court, it's not going to fly man. The judge is going to tell you to pay the fine and then pay the court fees for wasting his/her time. It would be practically impossible to argue that an aftermarket exhaust, especially one that has no muffler, meets all the state/federal guidelines to be street legal. Don't waste yours or anyone else's time in court. Pay the citation and go on with your life.

I'm falling in with Bitter on this, man. But I think you know that.
I really do wish you good luck. As broken as IL traffic laws, law enforcement, and traffic court is, I really don't think you're gonna pull anything off here.
I really don't wanna motivate you to fight this thing, OK? But if you get off on this, I'll gladly buy you a $20 gift card to your favorite burger restaurant - if you can find me a way to buy it from here. Hell, I should make you the same offer if you'll just pay it and not go through the execution you're facing. *Shrug*

I emailed another Dupage towns police department on the exact procedure an officer should take in my situation.

I had a Kazuma on my celica for 2 years, put 20,000 miles on and got 6 tickets.
I only had to pay for one of them. Just switch it out within the 24 hours with stock and slap it back on after.

sent another email to the chief of police
"You can apply for court supervision, follow the instructions that should have been provided to you in the pamphlet. That will keep the citation off your record, assuming you get no other violations. You can check with the DuPage County Clerks Office if you have any other questions."

I already gave you all your options in the PREVIOUS thread you created regarding the same issue... Obviously the cops their are d1cks about it and your going to continue to get into trouble over 2-3hp... get another exhaust thats streetable and will keep you out of trouble... one ticket is enough to have done this before... now two ticket... just change it since you don't want to "hack" it up and put in a res or cat.

Me? Stock exhaust? Nope. DDPR ported exhaust manifold, cut-in high-flow cat, and Magnaflow axle-back. The only thing different since when you saw the car is the axle-back. Used to be an eBay Greddy Evo2 knock-off.
Nowhere near as obnoxious as your Kazuma was.

I just figured out a good fix for easier swapping. Cut the Kazuma out, get a metal tube to sleeve and clamp it. And get a repair receipt from a friend.
So much easier than welding. I was told BMW's dont flange and they use really expensive clamp. GENIOUS!!!!!

I've dealt with those clamps on other makes of car. While it sounds good in theory, I've yet to see one that I didn't have to heat red hot then beat with a hammer to get all apart.
