Best way to launch an auto GT?

I know, I know, there's a "How to launch my car" sticky somewhere, but it only covers 5 speed GTs and 6 speed GT-Ss. So what's the best way to launch an auto GT? I really want to break into the 10's. (0-60) And those dang V6 Siennas keep beating me from a dig! I want to know what it feels like to be in the left lane for once! And please don't post "get a GT-S" or "swap in a manual". I want to save up so I can buy a real sports car (like a Genesis coupe or Camaro V6) in 2-3 years. Thanks.
EDIT: Some people may have thought I was literally racing Siennas from a dig. I was talking about passing them to merge into the left lane.

neither of those are real sports cars just so you know, i'll assume that was sarcasm.

b. write this number down, mark it on your guage face with a non permanent marker, or memorize the needles position. you will need this later.

2. Practice.
a. Using the 2 foot technique (one on gas and one on brake) determine the amount of brake pedal pressure needed to hold the car in place with the engine at the stall RPM.
b. Now with your foot on the brake with the needed amount of pressure slowly raise the engine RPM to the stall, then drop back from the stall by 200 RPM.
c. Finally, this is the tricky part where you need cordination. Release the brake pedal WHILE mashing the gas. the 2 actions have to happen at the same time, if you bounce off the stall your launch is ruined.

3. Experiment
a. Find at what engine rpm you feel like you get the best launch from. different cars with different mods have different power bands. some may launch the best right at stall while others may do better several hundred rpm below stall.

there, now you know how to launch an automatic, or atleast how i was (self) taught. will you get the tire smoking burnouts that a 5spd will? nope. will you get slightly better 60ft times? maybe

What??? Are you thinking of the last gen V6 Camaros? The new ones are only a little slower than a 350Z, but they have backseats. 304 hp direct injection V6, 7000 RPM redline, breathtaking styling, what's not to like?

Thanks! That's perfect. They're not sports cars? What are they then? I know the Camaro is technically a muscle car, but the Genesis seems like a sports car to me.

a lotus is a sports car, a corvette is kind of a sports car, a camaro is a muscle car. sports cars are zippy engine + tight handling + good brakes. muscle cars are big engine + family sedan handling + family sedan brakes.

genesis would be a touring coupe, like a sports car but a little softer and more portly. a porsche is a sports car (well some arent but we won't go there).

I'll have to try it tomorrow to get an exact number, but it's probably around 2,000 RPM in a Celica. You can see where the RPMs hang for a second in my 0-60 vid here. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/0...mod_694666.htm

Depreciation value. You are in high school. You would be stupid to get another car at your age. Instead of spending it in something that loses value, how about spending it on education instead. Just a thought.

The way I was and am being raised, education always comes first. I'm talking about spending what's left over. On a used car of course. After saving up in case of an emergency.

News flash. You will not have anything left over. My education at UNL ranks as one of the 6th cheapest in-state colleges in the country and my education expense/living/beer/food was around 6,000 a semester. No way anyone is making 6,000 a semester with a part time job. I went into college with 2,500 after my summer job. It lasted from August to December. You will not have **** left over for money nor will you drive much.

I think I probably put 4,000 miles on my Celica the first 2 years of college. After the constant door dings and the car just sitting there I should have sold it.

Stomp on the gas peddle really hard.

You didn't stomp hard enough if the plastic portion didn't come flying off.

Just because it's an auto GT doesn't mean I don't want to have a semblance of speed while I'm driving it. I know it's slow, but I'm trying to make due with what I have.

Make do? The Celi is a good DD maybe even a great DD, but if you want to be fast save your money instead of flooring it/ high revving the engine all the time, which to me would seem just as bad and n drops? Which will lead to more problems, which is less money saved for being fast... just my n00b 2 cents I could be completely wrong

So why did you mod your auto GT? I never looked at it from that perspective. I guess going to redline all the time is bad for the car. I'll try to cool it a bit.

Well if I could go back in time i would not have spent over 1200$ on useless performance... I would have saved to get another car. Only reason I posted here is because I made the mistake of thinking the auto GT could be fast and i learned my lesson. Trying to lend a helping hand I guess?

Well look at it this way. If I destroy my tranny, that gives me a really good excuse to do a 5 or 6 speed swap. And there's this guy on youtube with a 5 speed GT doing a 5.8 second 0-60 with only boltons...
Wow.
5.8 seconds is good enough for me.

you're going to be spending a lot of money modding your celica if you want to be fast. I've done the research, our parts aren't cheap at all. Make sure you really research your stuff before you dive head first into it all.

Your logic really confuses me, o well you'll learn I hope... also without alot of money Celicas are not/won't be fast.

i think you should just have fun before you get bounded by college and bills and everything that makes ppl teary, but always remember to drive smart.

but if you love the celica like me you will find some way to make it better and launch.. correctly? even if it takes years...

Did you notice the CEL in the video? I did. Probably threw a CEL doing launches over and over again. Take it easy on the car or you might end up with a dead celica.

It's late, I have no logic. I was just imagining I guess. Most likely I'll just buy a CAI and some new wheels and tires and call it a day.

don't forget a drop. new wheels and tires look nice but almost always looks better with a drop. I just got a set of 17 inch rims put on my car but I still need a slight drop. looks kinda funny right now.

My ride's really stiff as it is. Won't a drop make it even stiffer?

Actually, let him do it. If he destroys his car, there will be fewer Celicas on the road, and the depreciation value will decrease lower each year as our cars become more rare.

If I destroyed it it would still be on the road. Albeit with a 6 speed. But that's nice to know.
It seems like whenever someone talks about launching/driving spiritedly with an auto people always say you'll destroy your tranny, etc. But look at how many threads there are about people saying that their 2nd gear syncros are shot, or their car pops out of gear vs. the number of threads about problems with an auto tranny. Maybe these autos are stronger than we give them credit for...

Just remember when you go to shift from 1 to 2 or however it is in an auto gt, make sure you press in the button really good and shift really quick. if you're lucky you'll shift into R (R=race) like I did when I was 16. Cars really like it when you go from 1st to R.

The link posted about launching auto's is your best bet in launching you gt.

Yes i would assume it is bad for your tranny and never to neutral bombs.

I wanted to mod my auto gt. but realized that i could careless if its fast or not i want a reliable car that will get me from point a-point b for a couple years until i get enough money for the car i desire..

don't let anyone tell you what to do with YOUR car.

if you want to mod it go for it, some mods will make a difference.

for instance i know for a fact intake, hotshot header and full exhaust will make a difference.

not as much of a difference then a gts but you get the idea.

i am probably going to do some suspensions mods kep everything stock besides that and practice some autox, because frankly celi's can handle.

yes there is threads about using the lower gears L and 2nd i believe from forcing the car not to shift..

i messed with it and it does make a difference but one mistake and your going to initiate R Race mode..lol

Really?? I always thought R was for reverse. I'll be sure to try that first thing tomorrow!
