Anyone tried rustoleum roller 50$ paint job ??
Anyone tried using rustoleum roller painting a car? In canada its called Tremclad (from canadian tire) and in USA its called rustoleum. I have researched for hours and found that it seems to work pretty well for the price you pay .... though it requires excessive amount of time to dry and to work on.
Here's a thread about it: http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/...0&fpart=1&vc=1 This guy painted his charger with a roller only and for 50$ : ![]() This guy painted his 240sx black http://forums.nicoclub.com/zerothread/241161 I think i will give it a try for orange or blue color..... This trick is not jokes or anything, it really does work and prove. There's many youtube videos about it. My friend has a compressor though, i'm not sure if we should use compressor or use roller trick .... we have a lot of spare time but just don't want to spend that much money into paint job. I mean, for 2000$ i rather buy a super charge or turbo. |

I'm still stuck between using the roller or compressor (using rustoleum water based paint?) If anyone has experiences, please let me know. That will be really helpful. My car has rusts in the quarter panel ... (first and 2nd owner mis-treated this baby =( ...) but the engine is still running strong. Just the body .... so instead. I decided to sand the whole car and re-do the paint job.

I have seen this done in person and its horrible. I hope you dont think you can roll on clear coat also. The reason you cant tell it looks horrible is cause the pics arent close. $50 paint job and looks good should not be in the same sentence. Save up the money and get your car painted in a air controlled and dust free enviroment.

I got my 6th gn painted at maaco for under $600 and was extremely satisfied with the results. They did extra sanding on the hood, fenders, roof, and hatch, and did a primer coat and then a single stage paint. Most people couldn't believe it was single stage, it was very shiny! After seeing it, one of my coworkers got his truck painted at the same place and was also very happy with it.
It's very hit or miss with maaco though. The one I went to had extremely good reviews on yelp and other review sites while every other maaco, miracle, and earl scheib in the area had pretty poor reviews. Here's a pic of what it looked like:

I am planning to do this on some project car. But it will be some old rust bucket.
I've researched it, and would love to try it myself, but not on my Celica. No way. It's a good idea for tight budget projects, race cars (since nobody will see it close anyways), off road trucks, work trucks etc But if you decide to do this, please take a lot of pictures. |

as a Painter, you get Exactly what you pay for when it comes to cheap paint jobs.
even with a lot of time invested, it will probly be pretty trashy.... but, to each his own i guess... and re-sale will become a difficult joke ...just food for thought, sometimes poor paint condition is better then cheap cover-up jobs
