I can't imagine a V8 being too good for the handling. I bet it has a mean growl though, nobody would be expecting it!

If you read through his project details you will see that he plans on moving the gas tank up front to better balance the vehicle. He is also making up for the increased weigh in the rear with larger/stronger coils.

There was no 3SGE in the first or second generation Mr2's

The First generation had the 4AGE and later on the 4AGZE (supercharged). I have actually never heard a 4AGE revving by itself. There were a few at a meet I went to, but at that time everyone was revving their engines.

The second generation had the 3SGTE or 5SFE....but no 3SGE

The first generation MR2 or MK 1 as we call it, only came with the 4A-GE or the 4A-GZE in the USA. A 1500cc carbed version was available in other countries .
The 3S-GE and the 3S-GTE were not available in the MR2 until 1990. But the USA only got the 3S-GTE and the 5S-FE in the 2nd gen car.

The fuel cell is out for now. Today I installed the stock tank, but with a large Walbro pump good for 500hp. Maybe later I will do a Fuel Cell. But cash (wife) has limited my purchases for now.

The engine is not all that heavy, despite what uninformed folks say. The whole package is only 550 pounds. Not much heavier than the 3S-GTE, which I also have in a MK1 MR2.

Not too good for handling? The engine sits between the wheels. In front of the rear wheels. You can't get any better than that. The only problem I see is with power oversteer.

Why a 1st gen? Because they are the best MR2. They are lighter. I have a yard full of them (I own 6 MR2s, 1 celica all-trac, 1 GMC Jimmy 4x4 and 1 Dodge 4x4 pickup. I use what I have.

Is it ugly? Not to me. But then I don't really like all the new cars out now. Might be my age. But then I was in my mid-20s when the MR2 first came out in 1985 here in the states

I wouldn't want you running into it either Especially after I get it painted.

You guys can come see it at the Kingston 2004 MR2 meet in Kingston Ontario in July. Or around the Richmond Virginia / Washington DC meets in 2004.

Sure ruin my fun.

Guess I was wrong, but I'll stick with saying that I was just talking about the U.S. mk2 mr2 . That should help me to feel better.

By the way Bill, I wish I could 'assemble' my projects as fast as you appear to be.

It is an optical illusion. My wife on the other hand tells me I spend far to much time on the cars and less on her. I tell her the cars don't nag me so much. But I usually get "the look" when I say stuff like that... so I usually just keep quiet.

That car will never see the street if he does. I would be afraid to drive it/ride in it on the track. Hit the wall or a car in front of you and KABOOOM!!!!

Same problem with having a gas tank behind you . But I believe fuel cells are supposed to be very durable for those kind of incidents.

The MR2 has 4 fire walls. 2 of them are in front of the driver. The MR2 is very safe in a frontal impact, safer than front engine cars as the front end is a complete box and not open like a front engine car.

This Mk1 MR2 owner thinks it's pretty cool. The car itself is very underated and not seen as a serious performer. I think that might be from the way it looks.

Very cool...
I have been a fan of the Mk1 MR2 since I was a young kid.... Try 3-4 years old...
My first RC car (and I still have it) was a white mk1 MR2...

The guy that invented the TEC3 ECU and the Trans Controller I am using will be delivering the trans computer to my home tomorrow. I am just a few weeks from getting this bad boy started. This has been a lot more expensive and a lot more time consuming than I ever expected...
