question about a turbo kit for an auto

as it has been brought to my attention in the recent months that their is now a turbo kit out for the auto and manual gt from dasports but i was wondering for an auto what else do you need....i was told a stronger torque converter but what else help me out

better to have stronger torque converter because you can more effectively use that power, but I think your stock auto tranny can hold the set turbo psi which means it is not necessary to get it.

If you purchase our kit, you will not need to modify the transmission if you don't increase the boost.

The stock automatic transmission is actually very strong, so just keep it running cool and it'll be fine

not necessarily a stronger torque converter, but a more efficient one is always good.....go to levelten.com for tranny stuff if you want, but dont say i didnt warn u when u see their huge prices....some (like me) say it is a small price to pay for being completely bulletproof though....i wanna see how far i can boost that bad boy! 1 bar will be cake, and i'm betting 1.5 bar will be stressing the parts a lot, maybe breaking some, so i'll probably be 9 psi for daily driving and 15 psi for the high boost red button

DD - have you actually tested the breaking point of the stock auto tranny yet? i'm very curious to see how much abuse it can take

Figuring that the Corolla and Celica trannys are similar, I would love to know the max power it can handle as well. I got the LevelTen torque converter (not installed yet) and am getting a tranny cooler. I'm also installing a tranny temp gauge.

ok but you wouldn't suggest like getting new cam gears or headers and junk, and about the stock sleeves in the engine i've read that boosting too high can bust those...but i think that had something to do with high compression engines and the amount of psi to run, what is the max psi that we could run on our engines without having any serious prob., and how hard is the install for this turbo kit?

it doesn't matter what transmission the car has for a turbo

and to the original poster......you cant put headers on a boosted car unless you dont want a turbo manifold, which many say is the most vital piece of a turbo kit....

howthingswork.com will explain how a turbo works and explain how the transmission doesn't matter because its purpose is to shift to a certain gear once it reaches an rpm high enough or something like that i guess

k you have a GTS.....DD is only offering kits for the GT as of now....if you goto dasports.net you will see an option for manual or auto, but the only difference between the two is that the auto one comes with a transmission cooler to keep the auto tranny "healthy" while under boost.....but yes, the XS kit will definately work with your auto gts

ok so what is needed to run the most boost without doing serious damage to the transmission or engine and whats the highest that has been reached safely...but for daily driving the recommended is 9psi isn't it?

omg orgasm....i did not kno it would work wit an AUTO, so the tuning is not deifferent or anything? and the ECU will be ok? The apexi power fc (if tats wat is used) can still control all of that stuff?

Carb0nBu2k1Celi - you cant really use psi to explain this since different turbos will produce different amounts of power at the same psi level.....the stock connecting rods will break at around 250 horsepower and the tranny will go to crap at about 240 or so

each kit is set to about 7-9 psi with their respective turbos....if you want to go higher than that, i suggest getting some Wiseco low compression pistons, some crower connecting rods, and some tranny reinforcement which varies depending on whether you have a manual or an auto

for tranny reinforcement, goto levelten.com and all will be answered ....expensive as hell though....

oh, and dont try to go much higher than 300 hp - you wont get any traction AT ALL

if i can ever afford the turbo i will prob. just stick with the 240hp that is guaranteed by dasports with the install while 300 sounds nice, i don't wanna be breaking anything 240 is good enough for a car that is mostly show anyways
