It should work fine. The intake will sit at a slightly different angle, since the stock rubber hose extends out further than the bend on the Injen pipe. You can always get a muffler shop to weld together a straight pipe and a 90 degree elbow, both 2.5" in diameter, to restore its original location. It won't matter that it sits further out, since the part of the pipe with the mounting bracket will be cut off. Doesn't matter anyway, since so many people have had their bracket brake off with no bad after effects.

The stock MAFS housing and intake plumbing is 2.5", whereas most (if not all) aftermarket CAI's are 2.75". IMO, if you were to use the reminants of the aftermarket CAI to replace the intake plumbing, you would then create a bottleneck. I would think that using the factory plumbing would be a better choice.

ok i dont know where u guys got the idea that aftermarket intakes are 2.75" and stock is 2.5. i just sort of did the bb mod on my injen and the piping is exactly the same size as the stock maf housing!! it lines up perfectly! i just lined the stock maf housing up w/ injen's maf housing and i cut the top of the injen off and replaced it with the stock housing..i took some pics on my phone cuz i was too lazy to get my digicam. so far it did exactly what it was supposed to. the car did not hesitate as it usually does when i reset the ecu and my low end seems to be mostly intact(ill take a vid of 2nd and 3rd gear pulls when i get a chance but so far it seems to have worked great. better low end then aem with injen top end. And i must say after driving with an AEM for a few days, the injen is a better intake once u fix the bog issue. the aem is too loud and the top end is not as good. it also seems more poorly constructed and at idle the car hums like a pool filter..lol.

ill post pics in a few mins

here are some pics

normal injen cai

injen w/ stock maf

you can see here that the stock housing diameter matches the injen pipe diameter

People got the idea that the stock intake is 2.5" diameter and aftermarket intakes are 2.75" diameter from the fact that they actually are.

stock intake (mafs housing)

aftermarket intake (chopped aem)

sawzalled my airbox to get the 2.5 inch mount and i have it sittin inbetween my rubber hose ant CAI

my CAI sits about 3 inches off the road
you can see that blue foam filter ezy

when i gun it i get a real big breathing gust noise goes "schook" and when im idling you can hear the intake hiss
soo sweet
i need a bypass valve though

really then how do they line up with each other so well

idk about aem but injen is 2.5..ill measure the part i cut off later

and why are u measuring the OD of the AEM and the ID of the MAFS housing?..of course it is gonna be larger if u measure it from the outside

My ebay knockoff and MAF lined up perfectly as well, the ID of the two appears to be about 2.6".

Yes it is worth it. It's basically free to do. Deff. worth while.
You will feel better low end throttle response and power, while the top end isn't affected. If you're experiencing a CEL from your current intake setup, it will eliminate that also.

its not so much a difference in power as it is just no bog where there was bog b4. i noticed a few things. first, when i reset the ecu it usually spudders a bit between shifts w/ normal injen..thats gone. also when the car was cold sometimes i would floor it in 1st and it wouldnt go anywhere..that is gone. havent had a cel yet, but that takes some times. also the dead spot b4 lift isnt quite so dead anymore. topend is unchanged

very true . seems like that from any manufacturer's CAI to a BB mod. felt much more stronger b4 lift now from my CAI K&N with this mod.

You won't get a CEL unless you install some hoses wrong. Every single person that has had a CEL or bogging caused by their intake has had it solved with my mod.

i just test drove my gt today w/ this mod and the bogging & hesitation are gone! it pulls alot harder now and the engine is not as loud as before. no cel either. btw, i got so excited that i started it up without putting the ecu reset fuse back on.it did not start! lol. (i know, i know.....stupid me!!) it took me like 4-5 hrs including the cutting of the mafs..i only had a hacksaw--dont feel like buying a dremel or something but it got the job done! the only problem that i had was the o-ring on the mafs coz it's stretched out/got bigger or something.it's hard to stay on every time i push the mafs in..it sucks!!! but overall for me, it's worth it & i like it alot!!!

Anyone know what a stock airbox will set me back if I ever want to sell the car and the person buying it wants it to be stock? And wont parts become harder to find in the longer run now that Toyota are discontinuing the Celica? I know that for my Peugeot that I did some mods on I have saved every stock part, and now that I am selling it I am glad I did. Modded cars have fewer potential buyers... And another thing. Wouldn't it be cheaper to have an exhaust specialist make the tube that goes to the filter. Only thing I need is the little tube for the vacuum hose after the bend. That way all I need is a K&N filter rather than buying a fancy K&N tube that I have to cut into pieces
