Going to do brake pads soon...Good performance replacement?
I think the time for new brake pads may be coming, and I have alot of favorites. I hear great things about stop tech and EBS, as well as Hawk. I think Axxis was mentioned, but I want to stick to big brands. I have read a couple articles on this subject, but would like to know what real people are running everyday on the street for daily drivers. I don't want something that has an operating temp of 400*C. I just want something with a little more bite on the daily grind. Thanks.

Stock are awfully good...
I've never heard anything good about EBC unless stickers are your priority.
I do hear a lot of good things about Axxis, and the Hawke's are fine too (I'm pretty sure that the TRD padsare just rebadged Hawke HP).
Honestly, a cheap set of Raybestos Metallic pads would be fine. Most of the newer Ceramic based pads kick ass.

The CARQUEST (Raybestos) Ceramic pads ROCK. I've had those on every vehicle I've own, or my family owns. No dust, no noise, and lots more stopping power. The Raybestos metallic pads are also nice. CARQUEST now has 2-year Ceramic pads (BCD numbers) that are suppose to be as good as the lifetime (GCD) pads, just a bit softer so they won't last a lifetime.

But they are metallic, so don't that have to be warmed a bit for biting?

Brakepads are always a compromise between a bunch of factors (e.g. noise, fade rsistance, initial response, etc.). Check out this site by Endless, it has some helpful graphics when you hover your mouse over the various pad types: http://www.endlessusa.com/estore/sports_pad.php

The ceramics need to be warmed a bit for maximum bite, but they still bite like crazy after long driving times. I have slotted rotors too, and that also makes those bite like crazy. Right now, my brakes are quite touchy. Without much effort, I can lock-up all 4 wheels going 70+ mph. I was never able to do that before. And no, I don't have ABS.

Nice site Void. I have read a couple articles on brakes, but wanted to know what works in everyday commutes. I was leaning towards the Hawk HP Plus--any comments anybody?

I use the TRD pads, front and back. They've been good for street, autocross, and occasional track use (where they did surprisingly well).

I am also in the market for some brake pads for my GTS. It is starting to make that nasty ass sound.
So which one are you going to go for? And what is a good price for a pair?
Is it easy to install them myself?
What would I need other than the brake pads to get the job done?

Actually, it looks as if I have over 50% pad left on front, so I won't be doing it for awhile. However, I was still leaning towards Hawk HP plus, since it is one step above stock--and from the same company.
You won't need anything other than a jack and some sockets to do the install--just remove the caliper and swap out the old pads for the new. I believe I found the pads I wanted for $80 or 90 a pair--you might be able to do better.

watch wat u say bout EBC's, they are stock on the IS 300. i like mine, can be nosiy sometimes, but stopping power is sweeet.

Why would Toyota source out two different sets of brake pads on cars with very similiar sporting intentions?

That might be true, but parts made for OEM companies like Toyota/TRD are usually developed by those same companies, then the info is sent to aftermarket companies like Hawk or EBC to actually produce the parts. The aftermarket companies' products for the same car are usually different than their OEM counterparts.

Axxis Ultimates grip much better than stock and mine haven't faded yet, but they dust like a mofo. If the dusting doesn't bother you, I'd say definitely pick them up.

Yeah the kvr cf pads are pretty nice. I broke hard on them lots of times last night, and there was literally no noise at all. Also, the manufacturer claims that the pads don't need to be heated up to maximize their efficiency, which I feel is true as well (although I can't be 100% sure.) However, I can lock up the brakes wiht pretty little effort. I recommend these...

I broke hard and from around 40-50 mph to 20-30 mph about 5-6 times last night, and I didn't really notice any fade, although this is barely any tests at all
