stand alone ecu's
I have been looking at a couple of ecu's, but I live in cali. where they haved to plug into the ecu during smog. my question is there a good striaght plug and play ecu's that does not have to be spiced into the harness.(APEXi Power FC - this unit can be used on other 1zz powered vehicles but you'll have to splice the ECU connectors from a 2000-2002 Celica GT to your harness.)I want to be able to put my stock ecu in and get it smoged.

am i missing something, what car do you have? if you have a celica, no splicing is necessary. if you have a 1ZZ carolla or matrix then yes you need to splice....just get it smogged then swap ECU's thats what all us Cali people do

The Gt and Gt-s are plug and play. I just want to know if the settings get cleared and you have to reload the maps and fix the idle again once it's been unpluged, or if it stores the settings.

No - removing battery power does not erase the maps.
