Well, seeing as we only have one header, you can only do one straight pipe. You're better off welding on a straight pipe from right before the cat, since the pipe between there and the header has a divider plate that's necessary to maintain power. Be aware that a straight pipe will be insanely loud, and will get you pulled over a lot, no matter how light you are on the throttle, or even if you install a silencer in the tip.

You can do a straight pipe from the header but what would be your point? You'll get pulled over in a matter of minutes.

How about a straight pipe after the cat and a resonator, will this still be insanely loud?

Yes. Unless you install some type of ECV

Not as loud as from the header back, but still pretty unbearable.

I've heard exhaust control valves don't really help reduce noise much, definitely not close to installing a muffler. Coincidentally, I was actually researching them today. Trying to find a way to quiet my rather loud exhaust while maintaining good flow. Slapping on my silencer takes the noise down to acceptable levels, but kills power and gives a slightly raspy tone from rattling. Mufflers are pretty much the only things that can bring noise down enough. The key is finding a good flowing one...

Help me understand. I'm looking at the local exhaust shop replacing the "B pipe" (I understand it's called). Basically the single pipe that has the cat and a resonator integrated in it. This pipe has a divider plate? I've seen the one in pictures of manifolds/headers, but the B pipe has one as well? I asked the (very trusted) guy at the shop if he could refab the B pipe with just a hiflo cat and he said no problem. But if this pipe's got weird internals this won't be as easy.
Also, is the B pipe 2.5" on both ends??
Sorry for the partial thread hijack but if someone's replacing that pipe they should be as curious as I am on this.
Thanks!

When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you
If your heart is in your dreams, no request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star as dreamers do
(Fate is kind, she brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing)
Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in and sees you thru
When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true

You can do straight pipe right before CAT...
You want to keep your little section after the header....
So right before the first 02 sensor.......
There is a divider right after the header, you want to keep that.... then after that.. cut them.. then go straight pipe from there....
I have one good setup for sale....
It is 2.5" piping with high-flow CAT without resonator....
http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=209608
You can bolt up any exhaust after that... that will quiet down so that it's not too loud...

i got the DC sport headers with the TRD exaust. i want to know what the dementions of a pipe would have to be for me to bypass the cat. i don't wana weld it on so i can swap it for emissions. does anyone make a pipe like that, that will bolt right up instead of the cat?
