Help plz, engine check light (System too lean)

Well, finally got the it titled and all.

On Sat want down to Savannah (45 mi away), picked up car title, on the way back the "check engine" came on...freaked me out. I want to Advance Auto and got it read, came out as :

>>P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)<<

Car: 2000 GT 5spd, bone-stock, premium fuel, 85,000 mi.

They guy cleared it for me, Monday I went for a drive (about 50mi), the check light came on again...
Car Lube place said they charge $55 to check whats wrong...
(their prices are high... at least to me)

What can it be? And possible solutions

Thanks

will the error cause problems, if left unchanged?
It also seems that the car's accel is bogging down at mid-rpm range..then will noticebly increase at higher rpm.., possitive I had a better responce before

thanks again

Personally I dont believe half this bull about the MAF being bad in soo many cars.

heres my recommendation

Check the MAF sensor at the ECU. If its within specs at idle (like 1.1 volts - 1.5 volts) then its not the maf sensor

you can also chek the 02 sensors there

What I believe 2/3 of these Lean Errors are caused by is Vacuum Leaks. I dont mean at the lines. Can be a gasket broken, broken O rings, etc. Mine was from somebody smashing up the O rings on my fuel injectors.

Will see in a few days if it will come on again
