Gauge Light Problem
The GF just picked up a 2000 Celica GT. Sometimes, while driving it the gauge lights fail to come on, or they just go off and on at random times.
Is this something common?
What may be the cause/solution for this problem?
All the info will help since I;m a complete noob. Thanks!

Loose fuse, loose connector on the rear of the gauge cluster... among several possibilities...

Do the lights go off completely or just become dim?
anyways +1 to what 2Way said. Also loose ground or corrosion in a connector

Fuse = 7.5A Panel2 Multi-fuse. Multi-fuses are pretty much only available @ a dealer. If she got it from a dealer, they should fix it under 30 day warranty.

will give you the basic idea for getting behind the gauge cluster.
Do the center console lights go out as well? Radio, A/C, etc.? If so, it could also be a bad dimmer rheostat.

its possible that the previous owner had indiglo gauges and tapped into the power wire for the gauge lights. they probably used a vampire tap and cut the wire so the connection getting bad
