HID kit shouldn't require grounding...
For people who are picky, they use reply kit...
My HID kit works perfectly fine with stock wiring harness...
It has the soft start, so it doesn't over load the circuit at startup...
Start up amperage is way lower the stock fuse setup...

"UFO" & radio noise

I installed the Goldeneye HID's (www.goldeneyehid.com) H7.

A difference with the stock H7 bulbs is the "UFO's",

In your picture you have 4 above the cutoff line. How can you get rid of them. On european cars the beam is slightly difference and the ufo's (2 vs 4) are brighter.

Other problem is: when i turn on the lights the radio becomes noisy.
How can i fix this

thanks

Andres

Take out the bulb... look inside the projector.. you'll see a half shield and two holes..
Just cover it up with aluminum tape...

Your HID kit might not be shielded properly, or not grounded properly..
Alot of factors can cause it...

Is this the Hella Kit or the Slim style kit that you are referring to with this?

Both applies to same setup...
Slim style is improved version of the Hella Kit....
Similar design as the Hella, but smaller in size....

Yeah, hmmm i read that it could be the bulb or the ballast. I personely think its the ballast. I shall try a couple of things.

UFO's are 4 circles above the cut-off line on the head light..
If you look at the picture below, you'll see those 4 circular lights..
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...Install_07.jpg
It's there to light up street signs....
Some people don't like it so, they cover the hole that creates the UFO's with aluminum tape

For steps #1 and #2, you say to slide the rubber gasket thing all the way to the bulb's base. This allows the clips to hold the bulb down without the use of a bored out plastic adapter originally used with the H7 bulb. That is a good idea! I never thought about doing it that way when I first had an HID kit.

However, in using the rubber piece as a spacer/gasket, it is no longer used as a grommet to plug up the hole in the rubber boot. Therefore, moisture is allowed to enter the headlamp on a rainy, foggy, or otherwise humid day.

I guess you need to choose if you want an easy install or a waterproof install. It's too bad the bulbs do not come with 2 grommets installed... that would solve both problems!

When I used to have an aftermarket HID kit (before getting my OEM HIDs), I just cut that rubber gasket right off. The rubber cover of the OEM headlight would then fit very nicely over the base of the bulb, making the installation very easy and totally waterproof.

Headlight housing isn't completely water proof..
There are vent holes so moisture will go in and out... reduces condensation..
You don't have to worry about water going in there, since there isn't any water that will splash in there.... unless like you go into like flash flooded area...
That gromet isn't design to be use on Celica rubber cover... it's for some headlight that has plastic cover.. you drill a hole and fit the gromet..
But I think you might be able to push in the rubber color to fit the over the gromet...

Hey Sean, like I said above, you could always just remove that rubber grommet entirely. The clip closes perfectly over the back of the bulb base and the stock rubber cover also slides neatly right on the base of the bulb.
Makes for a perfect install.

If you don't want to bend the stock pins, then you'll need to use the gromet.. or else it will be loose...

Really? Ok, I guess these bulbs are slightly different than the ones I previously had. You didn't need to bend them at all. It was nice and tight.

It might be kinda obvious, but how do you pull out the input power wires (red and black) from the bulb's rubber gourmet?

It wasnt easy but I managed to get them out. The only thing is that I ripped those input power wire holes when I pulled them out. I hope that doesnt ruin anything.

how did you rip those holes? you simply just had to pull the wires out with a bit of force. it was really easy.

I recommand not to put it against the battery, since ballast heats up when they are running.... it's best to stay away from the battery....

Best place is to attach them to the body, it will dissapate the heat away from ballast...

I still have noise on the radio when the ligts are on. To reduce i have connect the ground on a part of the chasis. It helped a little, next step i did was to make sure that the ballast did not have contact with the chasis. For one a have done this but the other not. You suggest to connect the ballast to the chasis (for the heat), does it make a difference to you if the ballast make electric contact with the chasis?

I've installed the ballast right on the body and I have no problem with noise..

I have a question about your kit.

During the first 2-3 minutes of driving (esp during 1-2, 2-3 shifts), I notice that the HIDs would flicker just 2-3 times and after that they would run normally.

What does this mean? Why are they flickering?

Thanks

Thanks
You might want to check your connections...
It seems like moving the car causing that....

It's 6000k, but it was taken right at the cut-off line, so you'll get that bluish colors...

If you get UFO things just tape it off with aluminum tape.

Before: Didn't like the ufo thing so I just did what Dooly mentioned to remove them.

After:

Yes you can use double sided tape to mount the ballast. Just make sure you clean the surface area really well with alcohol so it sticks well.

I fixed the problem with the noise on the radio when the ligts are on.

At first i had connected the input powerwire to the orgininal powerwire of the car (as discribed in this tread). In this case i had the noise on the radio. Than i connected te ground wires directly to the Battery (Accu). This had no effect (stil noise). Then i isolated the ballast body from the chassis (very little effect).
Now i have connected the ground wire to the chassis. YES this fixes the problem.

Greetings Andres

How did you tape it off. Have you disassembled the headlight housing?

This may not be an intelligent question but bear with me

the whole dismantling operationwalkthrough, is the reason for removing the entire shebang for aesthetic purposes?

One of my low beam bulbs died so I'm thinking of getting a HID kit.

When I pop the hood, the bulb is right there behind the little rubber boot. Looking at the kit, why can't I just attach the ballast somewhere on the chassis, stick the 2 pin connector to ballast and tada! ?

Yes, removing the bumper and headlight is to mount the ballast easier...
If you can mount the ballast without headlight, then you don't HAVE to remove the headlight and bumper.....
Many people don't have the small hand, flexibility to mount the ballast in there......
Just make sure ballast is securely mounted....
