Celica GTS 189whp *New Dyno*

Went back to the dyno with a couple of changes made to the car (changed over to an Injen CAI and re-did the exhaust) and came up with some great gains. The mods of the Celica are as followed:

- Injen CAI
- TRD Shorty Header
- Custom 2.5" Exhaust (No Cat) with Magnaflow resonator and muffler
- Apex-i Power FC

Lift is not at 5600rpm and pulls like a mad man to it;s peak power at 8000rpm. We will soon do another slight change to the intake and hope to hit 190whp+. After that is cams (already bought and waiting to be put in), springs and oil pump gear and HELLO 200whp and 9000rpm redline

Hope you guys like the results.

Is it possible to see those kind of numbers on a GT? Without switching to a 2ZZ.

if you boost it... It will be near impossible to do it NA, not to mention it will be more costly. I think mwr built a gt a while ago that made 166 whp @ 6300 rpm ,143 wtq @ 5600 rpm and
130 wtq 2800-6700 rpm.

Nice work, Red. Looks like you got all the issues with the PFC ironed out. Just wanted to clarify this statement:

If you change the valve springs ...you need to upgrade the valves...or else they will mushroom(it happened to one of our cars).
Great numbers BTW.

Will you have to pull the engine out to install valves, valve springs, and the oil pump gear? I was thinking about doing this as well to reach more power.

I was also considering to upgrade the bearings since WAR had his fail when he was tuning his 2zz swapped turbo'd MR2 beast up past 9,000 rpm on a dyno. The bearings install would have to have the motor pulled right?

^Yep, for the headwork only, the block could have stayed in, but for the bearings definitely need to pull the engine.

Nice work man. This gives me some hope to be right behind you in power output once I get my powerFC tuned. I have some similar mods give and take, no header, but instead a kazuma.

Quick question: is this a daily safe streetable tune, or is this just a balls out agressive tune for the best number?

Red tunes for power with some safety, its probably a tune for 93 or 94 octane gas and he probably is running AFR at 13.0:1

I belive most ebay CAI are AEM replicas so they are better at lower and mid-range power... if you want high end gains the Injen is made for that, and works very well when tuned. However they probably have some Injen replicas floating around on Ebay so as far as the difference between them and the Injen CAI, nothing really but brand name.

nice work, is it just me or is the TRD shorty header loosing 8hp from 8k to 8300?

If I remember on our dynos like 2 years ago we'd get a 4hp loss from 8-8600 on the stock header.

has this car had lots of time spent tuning this area?

The tune in that area is pretty much optimized for the time being. I know I've heard the TRD shorty loosing power over the stock header, but the TRD seems to be working good enough for now. Don't know how much more we could gain by going to a P&P stock header.

I know you guys would like the maps, but I can't release them. The customer has paid alot of money to reach this #'s paying me and paying for dyno time for me to just give them out.

What I CAN tell you guys is that to reach this #'s all you need to do is use Jesse's latest NA basemap and work your AFR and ignition timing. His VVT map is right on par to mine with only slight changes made to it. My map is pretty much an optimized map suited to the cars setup using Jesse's map as a basemap.

Hope you guys can understand.

True but Jesse also spend a lot of his time and work into the basemap that you guys used. Like his map you also did some tuning to suit your car and thats what i want to do. I want to use your map as a base map and tune it to suit my car so its not like im or we just taking the map from your customer. We just need a better base map to tune it to our cars.

Thing is my map is not a basemap. A basemap is a map in which you run conservative #'s in order for the car to get safely to a dyno facility so you may then tune it to your needs. My map is a optimized, balls out map tuned for this certain Celica to achieve max gains. Jesse's map in the other hands is a base map ready to be tuned to your needs.

Cut red some slack I used to get all anal about giving maps out too when I first started tuning and then I eventually just said whatever and I give them out freely now as long as the customer that paid for it approves.
