D90 vs. 50D

Okay I got it narrowed down to two cameras.

Nikon D90
and
Canon 50D.

Is there one obviously better than the other one?
I've been reading reviews and it seems that everyone loves the D90. It is probably the best sub $1,000 camera you can get. Is it worth the couple extra for the Canon 50D? It seems like I hear Nikon and Canon a lot. I've always liked Canon as well.

If you look at the specs of both cameras the 50D comes out on top but the sensor on the Nikon is slightly larger than the Canon.

it's really on preference I guess. I say go into the store and hold both cameras. I bought myself a nikon. I think I should've went with Canon because I used my friend's and fell in love with it. I have the d80. I think they compare the 50D and d90 a lot. It's really on which one you feel more comfortable with.

Remember, it's not all about which camera you have. It is to a certain extent but it's also the lens and how you use it.

yeah I would say if you cant choose
go to the store and hold them play with it, ask the people there were the buttons are at since all cameras are different

but if you dont want to do this, I dunno if the 50D records, I think thats why the D90 cost more it has HD recording features

itsuzi is right about what makes the camera is the quality of the lens. why have a really nice 50D and can only afford to have the kit lens. i suggest you play around w/ both cameras and see which one feels just right in your hands.

my sister just got the Nikon D60, it is really good... Most Professional go with Nikon....

I'll get the D90 once i save up! its ur call... play with it, find out what camera you feel takes bettter picture..

I agree. Compare the two in person. Play with them. See which feels better and which is more user friendly.

yup..i think the ergonomics of the camera is one of the most important things to take into consideration. some say Nikon's "feel" is better but as mentioned, go into a store and hold both and see how you like it. IMO, both are great cameras so you can't go wrong with your decision. (but i say 50D hehe)

If you don't have any lenses, go for the D60 or XSI and get a better lens. Spending a grand on a body and using the kit lenses is just wasting money. You'll probably want to move up to something much better later anyways. Bodies get cheaper and outdated really quickly. Lenses hold their value pretty well, you keep them forever, and they produce better photos as camera bodies get better.

Besides, you'll get much better results from a $500 body and $500 lens over a $1000 camera + kit.

I went from an XT to a 40D and other than build quality and more pro ergonomics, There was no real world difference in image quality other than a few more megapixels. Get a cheap crop camera now and save up for a full frame later You'll be able to take your lenses with you (assuming you do your homework on lenses).

I'm getting a used Nikon D70 soon from a friend of ours. Also I am going to borrow my other friend's lenses to start shooting some nice photos.

I used to think that, but once I got the 5D (20mp), I really saw the biggest benefit of megapixels...Cropping. It's amazing how much creative freedom comes with the ability to crop into a photo almost as much as you want. There are so many times where I just didn't have the long zoom with me and was too far to capture the shot I wanted. A few megapixels won't make much difference, but it's just something to think about.
