New Kumhos arrived!

My 205/50R15 Ecsta V700's came Friday...

Data from the bathroom scale:
New 205: 22 lbs
15" OEM alloy: 17 lbs
Total: 39 lbs

Old 225 Victoracer on 15" OEM alloy: 40 lbs total

So, no great weight savings, but, as I think Scott said before, if these things are as fast as they are cool looking, I'm in good shape.

By my eye, they don't look 20mm different from the old 225's, either.

225 vs. 205

I don't believe that the 225's really provide any advantage. Contrary to what many people seem to think, wider is not always better. Given equal tire pressures, the contact patch of the 225 is no bigger than that of the 205...it's just a different shape. I've had 225/50's for a year, and it's clear that I don't use the whole width of the tire. The more vertical sidewall of the 205 should perform better, and maybe it will heat up better in the rear so I can get some better grip there. Gearing-wise the 205/50 is between the 225/50 and the 225/45. We'll see...
