However in the background of all these projects where was one project that was so insane it took almost 4 years to finally get to this point. There was some time when it was put off to the side to work on other things but this time last year it was finally time to get going on this thing and finish it for good. Many of you that remember Sexktten’s Celica remember that it was torn down and stripped. Almost all the parts from it were sold off and it was believed to have been lost forever. However that was not the case. The car is still alive and it is the reason I am posting here now. This build is the craziest thing I have ever done and it will probably be for a very long time. The time and energy into this project are just staggering and now that it’s finally close for me to be giving this car back I can post up. Pease note that the posts from this are past dated because if I had been posting from the start many of you would have been very confused at to my presents on this forum. I was not allowed to divulge the true identity of this car until just recently so now that it’s almost finished you guys get to see what all the Subaru guys have been gawking at for the last year. They didn’t know this was a Celica until just recently to that give you an idea of what’s going on here.
Okay let’s get started….
It started almost 4 years ago as an idea to get more HP out of the Celica’s original motor. Weighing the options we found at the time that for the money the hp potential of this car was very weak. We had discussed motor swaps but I didn’t have much experience with anything other then Subaru. She then asked me what it would take to get a Subaru engine into a Celica and I said it would require everything to be swapped over. The car would have to be converted to AWD and you would basically need to take the entire underside of an STi and put it into the Celica so the drivetrain could be installed without requiring extensive modifications and fabrication work. The next day I took some preliminary easements of the Celica and wagon and it all looked great. She found a wreaked 04 STi and bought it. We took both cars to a friends shop and I began the most ambitious project I could have ever thought of.
We started by Erin (Sexktten) stripping the Celica on a lift to a bare shell and I marked where I would remove and keep the original metal. Then her and I stripped the STi to the same state. It was hit high in the rear passenger door so all the metal I needed was relatively un-molested. I then surgically took the STi’s unibody apart at the spot welds till it was no more then the basic chassis. Frame rails, strut towers, firewall, floor pan etc... Then it was time to cut into a perfectly good Celica. I was so nervous that week I could have died. I removed the entire bottom from the Celica till it was just a shell and left the rocker panels in place for structural integrity. I trimmed the STi’s rocker panels in half and then trimmed the floor to the center of the floor rails. Once all the metal was trimmed and ready to be installed I set it STi’s floor bits on the ground and lowered the Celica down onto it. I tack the STi’s underside to the car and it was done. It worked out great. The Celica now had Subaru metal from the airbag sensors to the end of the tranny tunnel including the front strut towers and fire trimmed just below the cowl. Then the rear went in a few inches back (Celica has a 3” longer wheel base) and so it then got the STis rear rails from the rear crossbrace to the bumper beam including the rear strut towers.
I’d like to start off by saying that I would prefer if the haters would please reframe from trying to fill this tread with un-wanted or need comments of “you ruined a Subaru” and “ that Celica looks riced out” BS. I have worked very hard on this car and you’re entitled to your opinion but constructive criticism only. This is a serious thread and it doesn’t need to be filled with your useless slander as you troll through this forums and post unconstructive comments of hate that take 1% of your brain to create. If you want to post your questions or criticism please use your intelligence and think about an appropriate response.
So after almost a year I give to you the Toyota Celaru STi. What was once a 1.8L FWD Toyota with an HP potential of about 300whp, is now a 2.7L sleeved AWD w/ DCCD Toyotabaru with 650whp and potential for over 800whp with just a new turbo, injectors, and tuning. That FX86 has nothing on this thing…. And no this is not a Stock bodied Celica it has an APR GT300 Widebody on it. It has a custom hood, headlights, and hatch that I made all from metal as well as removed the rear side windows because this car has been converted to a 2-seater.

Let’s start with the Chassis.
I started by stripping all the stock undercoating off and stitch welded the entire chassis. I know many members feel that this is un-necessary but I did it for added rigidity and it made it to I could shave some weight off the chasses by getting rid of most of the un-needed supports and mounting points so in the end I shaved a good 100lbs off the car. Coated the underside in POR15 and then applied 2 coats of hard rubberized undercoating to keep it light but not defining. Here are a few pics of the end result. The Front frame rails are still cut short so I can make a custom core support for the Intercooler and radiator so we will get to that later. I also took all the crossmembers and seam welded and boxed in all the weak points to help with the all the HP this thing is going to make and then POR15ed those as well.
Now that the Chassis is mostly finished we can start assemble of the mountain of parts that’s going to be going into it.
For those that know me, all my cars may be “flashy” or “ricey” or whatever but they were all fast. My old wagon was packing 545whp daily driven and this car is no exception. From a gracious sponsorship from Brian Crower we attained the entire top level product line for this motor.
2.7L Stroker Kit 8:4:1 Compression
Darton Sleaves
1mm Oversized Intake/ Exhaust Valves
Ti Springs/ Retainers
Stage 3 Race Cams
To compliment these parts we added all the best supporting mods…
ARP Crankcase Bolt Kit
ARP Headstud Kit
Cosworth Oil Baffle Plate
Cosworth High Volume Oil Pan
Cosworth Blueprinted High Volume Oil Pump
Cosworth Timing Belt Guide
Cosworth Head Gaskets
Greddy Timing Belt
Machine work was done by Dan Benson who’s very well known for his sleaving. He bored, and balanced the entire rotating assy for 9000 rpm rev limit which is great for a 2.7L. Also fully Ported the heads with a like 20 angle Valve Job.
After the Block came it was given to the pros at PIA for assembly. They did a great job putting the long block together for us and it will be returning for Tim @ Surgeline Tuning to dial it in on the dyno.
So now on to the supporting mods. Currently we only have enough fuel and a turbo to make 650ish whp so when I get more funds will put the big boy turbo (or twin!?!) in and punch out the target goal of 850whp. We are going to run Direct port Meth injection using the AUX Injector ports in some APS tumbler deletes and a direct port nitrous kit in the intake manifold for extra fuel so we might be able to squeeze more out.
So far this is what we have (many of these parts are from the old Wagon):
Engine:
Agency Power Crank Pulley
Unorthodox Alternator Pulley
NGK Iridium Plugs[/FONT]
Cusco Motor Mounts
P&L SS P/S Line

Okay on with the Assembly!!!!!
For starters I coated the engine in a nice flat black engine coating to give it a different look. I want to showcase the performance parts installed on top it. I am starting with wiring and fuel.
Installed the tumblers, injectors and taped the aux ports for the water/meth nozzles. Now its time to hard-line fun! I decided to go hardlines because I can keep things much tight and better secured. Got all the Russell fittings and hose at TH Motorsports and the prices were great. A+ to TH for Hooking me up! Pics of the finished fuel system on Friday!

Well I worked late into the night and got the hardlines done a day early. Used a 10an to 2 8an Y block mounted to the engine and ran 8an or 1/2" hardline through the Aeromotive rails to the Aeromotive Regulator where I am running a 6an return. I had to grind down the APS Tumbers to fit the giant RC injectors but I mad it work and when the rails needed spacers to fit them so its pretty cramped.
Here are the Hardlines, everything came out really nice and its going to make for a nice sturdy point to attach my wiring too. The rearward line looks goofy in the pics but it drops down and then s curves though the blocks breather lines. I have made sure to clear all the ports I need and if you look where the lines enter and exit its all over the tranny. Everything that comes off the engine will come off over the tranny and there will be nothing in the engine bay but engine, intercooler pipes and a monster turbo.
I had an old Stock A/C Pump to check clearence on the forward drivers side line but I have one of the new smaller 09 WRX A/C pumps coming so it should fit nicely. Got the stock wiring harness de-loomed so I can set it in and move everything around so it goes where it should always have gone. I'll have pics of those Monday. The Turbo was pre-installed to check clearance but I took it back off to do the wiring and I still need gaskets so I'll have pics of the turbo back on soon.

On on with the wiring. De-loomed the harness and re-routed it a little. Cut out all the emotions bull**** and now we have a much leaner better setup. I am running all the connections over the tranny to keep the engine bay as clean as possible and it will help with servicing.
Now we’ll start slapping on the header and the TURBO!!!!!! I added some more welds to the Header to hopefully hold the boost and the heat better. Put the up-pipe on and modified the stock bracket to be sturdier so it can hold that monster turbo up. Lightly installed the Tial gate and dump tube and now turbo time. Turbo XS up-pipe is nice because it’s built to house the 44mm Tial gate and as I said before I modified the upper piece to better suit the build. If it shows as a weak point I’ll redo it to be all one piece but the weld on it are nice and the wall thickness is good. The DP had a weird 3 bolt flange on it and since I moved the up-pipe it’s worthless so I am going to make a new one. I won’t weld it ill I get the tranny attached to the block and mount the car so I can get proper fitment. Also I wanted to start from scratch because my whole exhaust will be V-Bands!!!
Oh and here is one more with the intake manifold set on there. Look at the size of the throttle body port. mmmmm 70mm aaaghaagaha....

And finally the tranny (also painted black w/ engine coating)
Now comes the fun part lowering the body on the drive train. I pre-set the crossmembers before bolting the engine to them. All we have to do is slowly lower the car on the crossmembers start all the bolts lift it up a smidge and gun them home. Everything is ready to install the engine but before I bolt it up I did a few more things now that I could like up the engine with the holes in the firewall so I did the breather lines and installed the rails and wiring harness for good.
So the next step is to get it in and start on the exhaust and fab up my new core support. Very huge milestone to finally have the einge back in the car since test fitting a year ago. I really had some doubts that I would get to this point but here we are. Everybody have a beer tonight and celebrate with me!

Okay after a long awaited time I finally have no more unforeseen inconveniences and I finally got to make some real progress this weekend.
I started with mounting the intercooler core. I decided that it would be easier to mount the bumper and then set the intercooler to the bumper instead of trimming the bumper to fit the intercooler. I have a perfect fit and the intercooler is exactly the right side for the opening. Fabed up a temporary core support so I could fab the intercooler pipes and locate the radiator. Once everything is mounted I will redo the core support into the final piece I want and then paint it.
As you can see the intake manifold has not been reversed and its because I wanted to keep A/C in the car for the long journeys to CA or where we end up taking it. It has plenty of power to run it so why not. Just because its a full blown racecar doesn't mean it can't be comfortable. :ritz:
There are 2 pipes, solid so there is less chance of failure and they are made from SS steal for added strength. 2.5" from the turbo outlet all the way to the throttle body and the pipes are pretty short even for not reversing the mani. The key was not having to run around the stock metal. I just ran the pipes where they would flow best and I'll build the sheet metal around it. The pipes are just tacked for now until the core support is finished and I can have them TIG welded.
Anywho sorry about the wait again but updates should be more regular now that I actually have time to work. I'll be finishing up the core support this week and then finishing up the exhaust this weekend. Then its off to wiring and suspension. I should be getting around to ordering the tire for it in a couple weeks to soon it will come off the lift and sit on its own weight.

Hey all pics as promised. We’ll start with the wiring. First is the pic of the main engine and bulkhead harness modified and layed out. As you can see only the things that need to be ran forward like rad fans, headlights, blinkers ABS sensor wires etc… Everything else I re-wired and extended to run back behind the front seats such as the ABS pump, Fusebox, Washer Fluid tank etc…
All of the headlights rad wiring will be running though the drivers side frame rail and everything else will be running on top of the tranny by the pitch mount making the engine very easy to disconnect and remove and also making for a very throe wire tuck.
Pic of the interior with some of the basics installed. There will be some custom modification here for sure to both the Dash bar and some of the H-VAC.
Heres the harness installed and pics of the new locations for the Fusebox and ABS Pump. Pics are blurry I’ll take new ones and swap them out tomorrow.

Hey all. Update time!
Finished the brake lines and finished mounting the ABS pump. Also started on the fuel pump, and surge tank assemblies.
Got the Core support 90% done. Finally located the intercooler, radiator, and ac condenser I just need to close off the front of the wheel wells and paint it. Pics of that very soon.

Hey all, got some good updates from this last week. I have been working 3-4 hours a night during the week to help speed this project up and get it done before my B-day Aug 17th so expect things to come together quickly.
Over the week I buttoned up all the suspension. I had to make a few minor altercations to get some parts to fit a little better and do what I wanted. Set the coilovers in a good place so they can settle without any issues. Set the toe, camber, and caster of all the wheels to fit the body. Set the sway bars and tightened it all up. Finished painting the last suspension bits and install a Perrin Crossmember brace for added ridgedness.
Note* some of these pics are out of sequence just to make things easier for the posts.
Next was to finish up and paint the core support so I could install the intercooler, radiator, and ac condenser for good. I have not finished the aprons because I am waiting for some metal to come in so I’ll weld those in and then paint them to finish the engine bay off for good. It’s just e-coating because it’s going to be painted body color at a later time. I used the stock bumper beam and tied with the intercooler is should make for a good 5-15mph protection of the engine but with the car being seam welded its obvious that 4pts will be worn all the time. It’s not a death trap but with all race cars street driving will need added awareness. The car does have a full 6pt cage with intrusion beams. I mounted the intercooler at an angle to fit the bumper perfectly which allowed me to fit the radiator partially under the upper support piece giving the engine bay a cleaner look and allowing better access to the pulleys and cams covers.

Okay, with that out of the way we can continue… Now that the Intercooler was installed for good I could finally decide on a place to mount the BOVs. It works great with the hood I made and they are mounted pretty symmetrically so I think it compliments the engine well.
You can see how well the intercooler fits with the bumper since I had free range to mount the intercooler where I wanted to instead of trying to fit the bumper to the intercooler by trimming it. Here’s a pic of it with the hood on it. You can see the little vents in the front where the BOVs are mounted under. Pretty unassuming I’d say. Well by unassuming I mean it looks like a widebody Celica with a FMIC and not a Toyotabaru death machine.
Next it was finally time to start doing the interior. My job is to get the car running and driving so it can be giving a break in map for the engine and to make sure all the suspension is working before it heads off to paint and a final tune. So for the interior I just have to make sure the Subaru Harness, heater core, and blower motor tuck behind the stock Celica dash. It will have the door cards dash and center consul. I’ll also be installing the seats, roll cage and covering up the rear floor but it will be a stripped interior for now until she has whoever finishes putting it in. To start I had to cut a couple pieces off the original STi dash beam.
Tacked the steering column to the Celica’s dash brace. I’ll have to alter the Agency Power Short Shifter shifter a little but to locate it in the center of the Celica’s original spot. Also modified the e-brake cable bracket so I could use the Celica E-brake to work with the Subaru hubs.

And finally to end my weekend on a good note I set the car down on its own weight in over a year to check the stance. Its tucking 19x10.5 +38 on 265/35/19 tires with room to spare and minimal camber settings.
I’ll be working all week to finish integrating some Celica wiring into the Subaru harness. Little things like doors, headlights, taillights, HVAC controls, Sunroof etc… Few more parts are coming in so I can finish off the engine bay and start checking operations. Then I need to make a floor for the rear from aluminum sheeting and finished installing the fuel system. Have to drop the exhaust to finish welding the top and then run all the vacuum lines. Only thing that might keep this from rolling this out by the 17th is brake calipers. My buddy still needs to paint them so I might be waiting on him before I can install them and check the brakes for leaks.

I read every single post. Amazing.. You know what's actually funny? I was talking to one of my sti friends last week about something like this, if it was possibile and now a week later I find a thread and it has been done.
Just out of curiosity. How much money would one, like myself need for you to create another project like this. If I can aslso scrummage another wrecked doner sti for parts?
This project with the celica sti is just absolutetly amazing...mind boggling.
Great job, keep up the good work.
I wounder if the celica is going to get the same paint or something different.
Also while the interior was out, should have got it painted black....black interior is way way way way 100000xxxx better than that nasty grey color.
Looking for to reading every single post about the project you make.

The interior is only in for my portion. It will be pulled and re-painted. Trust me with the work this car has gone through no part will be left of modified in some way. Custom paint and Custom interior will both be on the way when she gets the car back I assure you.

Sounds good.
Now what would be the cost to fund another project like this?
And after you doing the project, and someone from the outside (not in your social circle) coming to you to do another project like this. What would be the time frame - do you think?

They didn’t know this was a Celica until just recently to that give you an idea of what’s going on here.

Can you post the URL to that Subaru forum thread? I'm curious to read what they have to say from then to now.

Dude, these are some epic and very impressive builds!
I hope one day I could have the honor of seeing some of these in person! Since Bellingham is just north of where I live. Maybe you could do some body work for me?

There is no way someone could afford to pay him to do the work to this car. He has been working on her on and off for 4 years with thousands of hours into her. Not to mention the amount of money in parts and engine labor have been outragous. It cost me 13K just for the wrecked STi alone. This car truely will be one of a kind, she car will be his legacy....
