Is it good to drive 1000 miles without a coolant cap on?

toyota kinda left it off. i just noticed it and the coolant is way below the low line. but not empty. i don't know what affect this has, but i'm sure its not a good thing to do. so what now? the lid actually says to read the hood about installing more coolant, which says take it to the dealer, and then tells you the bigass process of installing more coolant. is all that really necessary? why not just pour more in? i KNOW thats what the dealer would do, i mean who are we kidding, they're incompitent assholes.

so what do i do?

That`s just the "oveflow" container. It wont cause any harm if the cap is off other than the remote possibly getting some dirt in the cooling sys.

And, yes, you can just add add a 50/50 mix of the proper type antifreeze and water to ther container.

you better put it on ASAP, although its just the overflow container, the celica has a PRESSURIZED overflow container like the ones on the german cars, this means the cap on the bottle is holding the pressure in the cooling system. In other words its like driving with your radiator cap off.

yeah thats what i figured and why i was so pissed. i got more coolant and it went away. luckily i haven't been pushing the car or driving very much lately. do you think this would have caused any permanent damage?

that sound went away. it kinda sounded like a fluid sound though. like it was sucking for coolant. the overflow was almost to the very bottom of the tank when the car got cold.
