"Mustink" V6....
At a stoplight...minding my own business w/ the wifey riding "shot"...road was kinda damp..dryin up from the rain earlier that day..it was about 9pm..silver "Mustink" pulls up next to me, and the driver gives me a "stupid a$$ smirk"..dont you hate when they do that?...I wasnt in the mood for any stoplight racin that night..plus I didnt feel like hearin my wife naggin me about it either..light hits green..of course as I suspected he takes off..we're both just spinnin our tires..keep in mind the road is kind of damp...Im just waiting for both of our tires to stick..as soon as it does, we're both taking off..I take about a 1/2 a carlength ahead..Im expecting him to pull, I shift into 2nd and I pull a carlength ahead..grad 3rd gear, and to my surprise I see the fool in my rearview still tryin to keep up...shift into 4th,then 5th he cant even keep up.. decide to shut it down at 90mph since Im only in a 45 zone..plus the wifey obviously is screamin my ear off...Im soo happy of course..think I embarrassed the "Mustink" terribly..he drives by me and doesnt even bother to look my way...of course I go home happy w/ another kill in the books..

must be that custom grill you got, adds lots of hp and torque.

wow, thats pretty impressive for the GT, I have a GTS and i raced one once, it was from about a 50mph role up till about 80, he definetly had an exaust cause that shiznit was LOUD, I expected to pull like mad but it was kinda close, i mean i pulled but not REALLY bad, it was a slow pull all the way till 80 and i had about a car on him (he was at my bumper), what do you guys think? was this guy packing more than an exaust, or are the V6 stangs just that quick...Ive taken out GT's that were considerably slower than that

haha,
not at all...but if oyu want to race a REAL v6..let me know
and yes, that s2000 antennae i think larry dynoed to 50whp.

Good race, but there is no reason to be so condascending about it man... If u don't like domestics, fine.. but don't insult the car just cause u beat it. We're not in japan u know.

You can be nice Slasher, but I'm not gonna.
Trust me bro, there are many V6 "mustinks" (as you call them ) that will hand you your butt, not wiped mind you... Slasher is one of them... The maturity level of your post warrants that of a Jr. Highschooler with no respect for authority. Both irritating to hear, let alone read... Did you stop to think that maybe you left him because he had SO much torque on the wet pavement that when he shifted, his tires couldn't grip? I'm guessing that's the case, b/c if he had ANY mods on his engine, he would have left you easily. Stock vs. Stock it's a good run for a Celi GT 5spd. But the celi should win... but as soon as that Mustang adds an exhaust, kiss it goodbye... You'll win on the high end power but, that's only if you can play catch-up with their torque numbers.
I don't like Mustangs myself yet, I do have respect for them... with a few grand in mods... they'll run mid-low 13's and take you in the twisties...
Do us all a favor, next time you wanna post about winning a street race, do it objectively and respectfully, because too many board members here know, the actual capabilities of most cars on the road... and we'll make you look like a fool.
*steps off soap box*

info about v6 mustang
5 speeds stock hit low to mid 15's with a capable driver(i got 15.4--and i suck)
stock you can spin thru 1st, 2nd and chirp 3rd because you dont have a limited slip, so one tire fire..and the stock tire is a 205 goodyear eagle ga..not what i would call TRACTION by any means.(Until i semi-got the launch down, my open dif stock car was running high 16's, 17's, and even beat a civic doing an 18..spun thru all gears)
from teh factory, ford connects both cylinder banks by running the headers into a y pipe. it is only 2 inch diameter as well. you eliminate this y, and run true duals, also increase pipe diameter to 2.25, or even 2.5" and you gain roughly 10-15 hp. What people do for best bang for the buck is slap a stock GT exhaust on there, its $80..its 2.25 in diameter and is worth about 8rwhp.
you then add an H or X pipe to the duals to improve backpressure and gas circulation, flow and velocity..it can add anywhere from 5 to 15 depending on n/a or Blown. I went with H, its better for lowend torque, midrange, but also improves top end hp...the X is best for top end hp though, but you suffer some low end...my exhaust guy didnt have a mandrel bender, so i went with an H. ($15, cant beat it)
next you can do Headers...shorty headers liek i have are best for midrange and gain top end, but doesnt lose as much low end..which on a v6 you kinda want since it isnt a torque monster like a v8 is. shorty headers are also CARB certified and emissions legal, where as long tubes, or LT's are best for top end power and most hp gain...since we're talking about 2-3hp here, i went with shorty for my daily driver.
on the intake side of things.. cold air INDUCTION, not intake...is worth about 7rwhp...youll feel the effect of it the most though after the dual's conversion ahs been done. it really opens things up, is loud and can hiss like a blow off valve at times..pretty cool
Underdrive pulley..we only get one..from teh factory ford underdrove all the otehr pulleys except the crank pulley...so you do the pulley, and gain 7rwhp and 7rwtq throughout your powerband, dyno proven..wonderful mod as it gives you teh feeling of having low end torque back that you "lost" from the I/E mods..in reality you just pushed your torque curve up higher, but..hey..cant have best of both worlds.
now..bolt on's are done..i assume you've gotten limited slip put in, so you now can get traction..besides, laying rubber in 2nd with two wheels is more impressive it also dropped my 60's a whoel hell of a lot and made me able to gun the car out of the hole faster than your moms secret boyfriend when your dad comes home early from work.
next we venture to subframes, short throw shifter...both improve E.T.'s....subframes reduce chasis flex which speeds up weight transfer on launch and the short shifter is so much better than the crappy stock one that you can get up to 2 tenths knocked off your quarter.
now you're right where i am, minus some MSD wires which are good for 1rwhp if that..haha....what should you be running?
well..with traction and a good track..both things i dont have at Commerce...you should be hitting consistent mid to high 14's at over 93mph.
don't say i didn't warn you. the car's pretty stout...and it only cost on average..15 grand.
Enjoy!

WOW, stock mustang v6's are hitting low 15's? thats better than expected, are you talking about the older ones (94-98) because i know nothing about the new ones. The older GT's only ran a 15 flat according to every magazine out, they have our car (GTS 6speed) with lower 1/4 mile times than the GT on almost ever comparison page. But then again, I only won by about 10 feet against one that had at least exaust...I still havent figured out if they need more than exaust to keep up with the GTS 6? anyone know?
|
nah, 99 ups...the pre 99's are dogs unless you throw the 99 heads/intakes, etc at them.
94-98 GT's are still faster stock for stock, and throw I/E at them and itll pull from say..my v6...gt's aren't easy to catch once they get mods.
for some reason the v6 has varying times like a mofo..some people can only get high 15's..some can get mid 15's..some get low 15's, and others run high 14's without anything pratically..its not so much the power gain from just exhaust(we're talking 10-15hp here..not a BIG difference), but its the drivers and most importantly the track and weather conditions...i know that for my car, when its humid at commerce, even if its in the low 60's, itll run like crap. it seems to respond the weather a lot more than my otehr cars have, and i have no reason why.
another thign i can think of is some people know drag strip tricks, others don't...and you need as many as you can get to get the lowest time. like remove the front swaybar, adjust tire pressures, remove passenger seat, spare tire, jack, and reset the ECU so it runs richer up top. unfortunately for me, i cant get traction no matter what i do until i get some 17's on there, so i dont bother witht eh front swaybar...and now that i have subframes, its prob. helping me out just as much, or more.
and i've raced two gt-s's....Larry's in street trim when i had CAI/Duals only, and foolmonkey when i had the same...with Larry i was running 35 psi in my rear bald tires and lost by a car and a half after spinning bad off the line(he was too, but i managed to scare some people around us with teh rear popping out..hehehe), and with foolmonkey i was ahead to 65 by a car, thn he put alittle bit over 1 on me to 100. with my mods now, i think id take out a stock gt-s, but we're talking about my 15,000 car brand new vs. a 23-25 thousand dollar car...you guys should win..the fact that i can hang in there with as good a driver as larry or alex driving says something though about this cars decent times...either that or I SHIFT MADD QUIK YO!
