that's a small part of the reason i'm getting a TRD exhaust....i think there is a paper that comes w/ it that states it's legal or something like that

Plus you have to worry about passing emissions...I'm nervous about that once I buy my new exhaust. And yeah, it may be illegal, but it's basically the cop's perrogative whether they want to bust your chops or not for the exhaust. To some, it may sound loud and be a nuissance, but to others it's not such a big deal.
The same goes with window tint. You can have dark tint and not ever be bothered. But I've heard of kids getting pulled over for having limo tint and the cop making them peel it off while standing right in front of him.
Edit: spelling

They seem to be cracking down on aftermarket exhausts on route 17 (from the Thruway going upstate) also. A few friends got ticketed for exhausts on that road recently.
Anyway, as as been pointed out, A TRD exhaust is viewed by most police as legal. NYS law states that you can`t "modify" your exhaust to make it louder than the exhaust that came with the car. Technically, you can take delivery of you car with a TRD exhaust already installed (by the dealer) so, you are basically covered under the muffler law.
However, you can still get cited for disturbing the peace, etc, so you must use a bit of discretion when around cops and be easy on the gas pedel. .
I have never had a problem with my TRD exhaust

hey pony girl...if u don't pass emissions, take it to a queen. u will find a place that can pass u in a heart beat.
EDIT: it will be even easier if u look good and have a good body

Yea I got know guy who would pass anyone that gives him his money.
I've not gotten stopped once for my exhaust. Glad I don;t have a TRD. Thats some wierd ish to be happening here. I thought that was a west coast problem.
I did however get pulled over once before for my tint. I had my marine friend with me at the time and they let us go on with any further queries but the bitch lady officer told me to change my tints. That was a year ago - Tints are still on.
I dont have limo tints but mine are still pretty dark.
I guess the Cops are getting these days. Not enough action. Just wait till the summer, all this harrassment is only gonna get worse.

I live right next to a police precinct in nassau, i never see a patrol car on my block during the week. They getting some coffee and donuts at a 7/11, thats the area where they have heavy enforcement.

But it is true...there are many cops roaming around Nassau (and Suffolk, with not a whole lot to do), but be nice to them even if they do eat a lot of donuts (trust me, I live with one ).

that's easy for you to say pony. a young guy(especially a minority) that driving a "sports car" or "sports compact car" will definitely will attract attention in a heart beat.
not to say that all cops are like that, but i'v encounted alot in my area(in nassau). i have a co-worker that is a PO and he tells me to watch my asss everytime. he tells me about the stories some cops use just to **** w/ ppl.

It's true...it's not politically correct to say that cops "racially profile," but they do...but you know, if you look suspicious, then you look suspicious...it happens.

I'm not saying you look suspicious...but I'm just saying that people get pulled over because they do...even though it's not a real excuse to.
That is pretty funny though...big pimpin' in the Corolla

Ha, "Go back to where you came from!" That's classic. But I had gotten pulled over one time and the cop was like, "Go home, go straight home and don't stop anywhere else!" Like, "don't pass go, do not collect $200." He pulled me over because I hadn't turned my headlights on...but I was driving my friends car...I thought I had. The cop thought I had been drinking. I was stone sober. He gave me the follow-the-pen-test and everything. What an idiot.

Ha, Tire Wet
But, I was nethier stoned nor sober. Ha. I was just driving back to school one night during pledging...I looked so disheveled, the cop thought I had been drinking!
Oh, and I'm getting my GFX installed tomorrow...I'm so excited! If the guy turns out to do a nice job, I'll recommed his shop to you guys.
