Since I can't make it to the Dyno Day, here's the next best thing. Got an independent dyno at a nearby shop on Saturday, since I wanted to know if any of the mods I've gotten after my original XS dyno (new exhaust, B&M ignition, ground wires) improved my powercurve at all. Had today off for Lincoln's B-Day, so I decided on the spur of the moment to make the trek to LeToy in Bakersfield. Very long trip, over 270 miles round trip.
Le Toy: I did three runs. Le Toy used two fans on the car during all runs. The silencer on my exhaust was removed for all runs. The first run was about 10 min. after my 2 hr+ trip there. Engine was very warm. The second run was right after the first (I didn't bother to get a graph for the second run because it was pretty similar to the first). We let the car cool down with the aid of Le Toy's fans for about 20 min after that. When we did the 3rd run, the temp gauge was one notch below normal operating temp (Does that affect the dyno run in any way?). I really like the fact that they showed my a/f ratios. Great price ($40), friendly service.
Best (3rd) run:
1st and 3rd run on same graph:
MD Automotive, formerly Jackson Racing (There's an interesting backstory for this shop on p. 40 of the April 2004 issue of SCC): I did three runs. MD Auto did not use fans for any of my runs. I had my silencer on for the first run and had it off for the third. The first run was immediately after my 20 min. trip there. Second run was immediately after that. Again, my 1st and 2nd runs were fairly similar (about a 5 hp diff) so I didn't bother to get a graph for the second run. The third run was about 25 min. later, since we let the car cool down a bit. The car was one tick below normal operating temps at start up. MD ran the car on the dyno til the temp gauge was at the normal operating temp again. Typical price ($75), friendly service. Best (3rd) run:
1st and 3rd run on one graph. 1st run was with silencer on:
