Brits to bolster supercar range with compact mid-engined model that will challenge class-leading 911.
These artist’s impressions give you the best idea yet of how the newcomer could look – and as you can see, there are clear influences from the P11, as well as cues from the original Peter Stevens-designed F1.
To keep costs down and prevent the small McLaren from stepping on the toes of the turbocharged P11, power is likely to come from a normally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 sourced from Mercedes’ AMG division.
With 450bhp in a car that weighs around 1,300kg, performance will still be scintillating. A 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds and top speed of 195mph will more than match the V8-powered R8.
It’s been a long time coming, but today we can finally bring you the first official photographs and news of the new McLaren MP4-12C. It’s the supercar known until now by its P11 codename, but make no mistake: the MP4-12C is the first bespoke McLaren road car since the seminal F1.
The two-seater MP4-12C doesn’t go on sale until early 2011, when it'll wade into what McLaren Automotive calls the ‘core sports car market’ spanning from
thank you homeworld for pointing out the ridiculous R8 similarities lol... i was gonna say something until i noticed the next few renderings which saved it for me
Wow what a completely useless looking car for a company like mclaren to make. what brand idenity does this sh1t build for them? seriously, if they got rid of that center fin/spar in the side intakes and made it a 3 seater with the pilot in the middle, than they would have been in 100000% better shape, IMO, than with this thing. It looks like a knock off lotus evora....
The reason why it looks like most other supercars is simple: Form follows function. They have to wrap a body as tight as possible around 4 tires and leave minimal frontal area, allow for decent cooling to the mid engine setup as well as provide good intake air. Ever wonder why the Honda Insight looks like a Prius?
The McLaren F1 served a different purpose altogether. This is not a replacement for it.
I had extremely high hopes for this new McLaren car, and they fell quite short. The last car they produced was just so groundbreaking, revolutionary & wild.
Where has that all gone?
It looks like they just went for the cookie-cutter supercar look.
itsa good looking car, but way out of my league so me no care.
