2019 Lamborghini Urus

SPY PHOTOS: Lamborghini SUV
Quote:
The Audi owned Italian sports car maker Lamborghini is building an SUV again.

This strange looking Porsche Cayenne is actually a mule for the coming SUV by Lamborghini. Because Porsche did most of the work when developing the VW Touareg and the recent Audi Q7, they also got the responsibility to do the development of the Lamborghini SUV.

Engine will probably be a version of the V10 known from the Gallardo and Audi S6 and S8, but also a 4.5 liter V8 from the Cayenne could be available. A diesel version is also in the plans, with the 5.9 litre Audi V12 TDI. This engine is a real masterpiece and has an enormous power output of 500 bhp and 1000 Nm of torque.

Between 1982 and 1993 Lamborghini built approximately 300 SUVs with the name LM002 , a monster powered by the V12 from the Lamborghini Countach with first 375 bhp and later on 455 bhp. At that time it was a very unusual decision from a sports car maker that was primarily known for high-performance grand tourers and super cars. But with the success that Porsche is having with the Cayenne, plans for a Lamborghini SUV are growing again.

Based on a modified Cayenne platform, the development costs will be kept low and with that raging bull on the hood Lamborghini is able to charge good money for a car that is in fact a Porsche Cayenne. Of course the design will stand out, and the sound of that V10 will get their owners the status in the asphalt jungle that they want.

We don't need anymore suv's period...or at least have the people that drive them take a second driver's test. I don't trust those huge hunks of metal anymore after two of them ran into me...while I was parked.

At least the last Lambo SUV was more about the utility part of the equation. That just looks like a jacked up Gallardo.

yeah . . . . that last Lambo SUV was such a success huh . . . makes sense to build a new one, especially with the lowered demand.

I guess they're targeting the rappers/basketball players/pimp demographic with this car.

Actually, the original LM002 of the 80's was a lot like the original (real) Hummer in that it was built with military use in mind, then developed for people with too much money.

not really build for military purposes. it was built to be a capable off roader, not a grocery getter. this is a ****ty photoshop of an actual gallardo. Lambo has made SUV's in the past, but i think this will be pushed thanks to Porsche's new partnership.

Flame me.

I think it is a cool idea. Make it an aggressive, mean looking SUV that is all balls and not the typical family SUV. Hell, make it an offroad monster packing some serious power.

If they stay away from the typical SUV and lean toward this, I think it would be a ''hit''.

2012 Lamborghini LM00X SUV planned
By Brett Davis | November 11th, 2010

Reports from Europe say Lamborghini is thinking of reintroducing a four-by-four into the market, codenamed the Lamborghini LM00X. It will be based on the Audi Q5 and upcoming Porsche Cajun SUV platform.

The last off-road vehicle Lamborghini developed was the military-like LM002. It was produced as a tool for the army – a kind of Italian answer to America’s Hummer. It never really prospered though as it was a tad too impractical, and quite small inside. Nowadays, Lamborghini is focusing on developing a tool for the auto industry, not an imposing weapon for the Italian/German armies.

Reports say the car won’t feature a screaming V12 or V10 engine either, like the original LM002, Lambo is again going for a more civilsed option and will be using the 4.0-litre twin turbo V8 engine the Audi S7 will get.

We can still expect supercar-like engine specifications though with speculators saying as much as 410kW could be on offer. This will help the SUV disperse 0-100km/h in less than four seconds… well, it is a Lamborghini no less.

The Lamborghini LM00X is slated to arrive in 2012.
Not very lambo at all lol

Lamborghini says no to SUV, yes to four-door sedan
By Brett Davis | December 6th, 2010

Speaking with UK publication Autocar recently, Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann pretty much ruled out the possibility of a future Lamborghini SUV being introduced. Despite this, he did mention an all-new platform could be introduced into the lineup soon and hinted that a sedan might be the one.

Since the company has already made a sedan concept, the Lamborghini Estoque, Winkelmann says the introduction of such a model would be good for the company as it could bring new customers to the brand. Winkelmann said to Autocar,

“We really have a choice when it comes to an additional model: an SUV or a four-seat four-door. And for me the SUV is a no-go. It doesn’t exist in our price segment, and it’s not a real luxury car.”

He also mentioned the unveiling of the Estoque, saying,

“It had a more enthusiastic response than we had expected. It was the right time to see if the brand could go outside of supercars. Even now, people are still emailing me about us making the Estoque.”

While Winkelmann may seem positive about the introduction of a four-door model, it’s the Chinese market that will provide key interest. The market just keeps growing, and with large luxury sedans being one of the market leaders, a Lamborghini sedan would go down just fine.

Winkelmann says it’s not a matter of providing a special model for the Chinese market though, he says the company will continue to build traditional supercars. He also said,

“Other car companies have to adjust their products for these areas, but luxury brands are the opposite. The customer wants the original, not something that’s been adapted to them. So they want a Lamborghini exactly as it would be in Italy.”

Good news for everyone. The Estoque was a great looking concept.

Lamborghini SUV

Quote:
Lamborghini’s 522kW SUV

Respected Italian car magazine Quattroroute believes Lamborghini might be gearing up to reveal the long-awaited successor to the LM002 off-roader.

According to the report, a spokesperson at Lamborghini’s HQ in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy, would neither confirm nor deny if the 522kW SUV – codenamed the LB 736 – will be revealed at the Beijing motor show in April.

Apparently the technical details of the vehicle are contained in the several pages of a leaked document that the Quattroroute obtained.

If the Lamborghini SUV gets the green light, it could pose a problem for Bentley, that other Volkswagen owned brand working on a high-end SUV, which is said to have a price tag in the UK of 150,000 pounds.

these things aren't SUVs---they are slightly raised hatchbacks/wagons with bigger wheels and lower slung profiles

i can guarantee that design does not add that much cargo space compared to a conventional SUV.

It's hardly the next LM002 is it?

Now that was a proper SUV, Countach sourced V12 lump and real offroad capabilities. That is what they should be doing, not just a plush luxury BMW X5 copy!

Mind you, when you look at the revenue that Porsche has generated with sales of the Cayenne you can see the attraction for the bean counters

A more aggressive LM with modern headlights would be so much win.
I think that's the problem with all modern SUVs too worried abOut looking pretty and smooth. A modern tank rolling around the city with a v12 would be awesome.

Indeed it would, sadly the demographics seem to suggets that we would be in the minority with that opinion and oddly people seem to want soggy handling, pimped out cars on stilts. Go figure lol.

You can't make an SUV look like a Lamborghini unless you make it look like the LM. This one looks like your garden variety Bimbo-mobile SUV.

They never produced a lot of those because they didn't sell. No reason to produce a car that doesn't sell.

Will this sell a lot? Not sure, depends on price if they make it. I've seen a decent amount of FFs and panaramamamama driving around lately, so this has a chance possible.

Lamborghini SUV necessary for survival
By Alborz Fallah | March 10th, 2012

Lamborghini is set to expand its current two-model lineup to take the Italian supercar manufacturer to the next level.

Speaking to CarAdvice at the Lamborghini stand at last week’s Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winklemann said: “we currently have a two model strategy and we need to stablise the company. Every luxury manufacturer has at least three models.”

Mr Winklemann is adamant that without a third model the Italian manufacturer would not survive in the long term.

“In the last few years we did an average of 2,000 cars a year more or less, it’s clear that we need to do something that is more than this otherwise it’s not worth it” he said.

The Lamborghini SUV, which is expected to be officially unveiled in concept form at this year’s Beijing Motor Show, will still be at least four years away from production, according to Mr Winklemann.

“It would take us years to make the third one, we are a very small company we have less than 900 people. If we decided today to build the SUV, it would still be more than four years (away from going on sale). We need to find the space for ourselves to get engineers working and we need also in terms of life cycle for other two models to get it started.”

He was reluctant to confirm a potential for a 2+2 Lamborghini or another model apart from the SUV to join the supercar lineup. “Once we do the third one, I think if we get there and we have the third one, even if we would think about something else, it would not be something that would be (done) this decade.”

Given the recent unveiling of a Bentley SUV concept at Geneva Motor Show, Mr Winklemann was adamant that his company would produce something very different. “Lamborghini has something that the others are not even thinking about. The car I have in mind if you’re talking SUVs will be very different (to Bentley).”

As to why an SUV model would be a better fit for Lamborghini instead of other potential (and more traditional) models, Mr Winklemann said “We want to be consistent, we are not a micky mouse company, we want to be (a company that is) reliable, has its own money, earning the money. Therefore we are analysing different segments which are big enough and geographically distributed in a balanced way which are able to create luxury business, which are fitting with the brand and last but not least are enabling us to have synergies in group platform (Lamborghini is part of the Volkswagen group which also includes Audi, Bentley and Bugatti). Without this we would not even think about it.”

The as yet unconfirmed Lamborghini SUV will be targeted to buyers in the USA, UK, Germany, Russia and most importantly, China. Mr Winkelmann said that markets such as Australia would still be a good fit for the model.

“Australia is a very complex one (market), there are all these brands, they are far away and you have less than 1 million vehicle sales (excluding LCVs). We have a huge fan community and I know that sometimes we had problems with our partners and problems with on going governments that are changing their minds on taxation. But (at the) end of the day we are stable in Australia since few years ago and even in Australia this (SUV) would be a good car” Mr Winkelmann said.

A Lamborghini SUV will be a huge change for the Italian supercar manufacturer, which has seen its Gallardo, Murcielago, and its replacement, the Avetandor models focus the brand’s attention directly on traditional supercars.

Mr Winkelmann believes that Lamborghini will always be a dream car manufacturer, a brand that will continue to surprise. “You have to continue to be somebody who is able to surprise the crowd. It will always be a brand for a few blessed or lucky, but it has to be more than just a luxury brand”.

Is a Lamborghini SUV the wrong move for the much-loved Italian marquee? Tell us in the comments below.

The computer gen is pretty funny. Looks like a SUV is 100% set for the future.

CG rendering looks like a cross between the Gallardo and the original LM.

Update!

Lamborghini SUV to be named Urus
Quote:
Chinese media are reporting that the long rumored Lamborghini SUV will be on show at the Beijing Auto Show and will be named Urus. The Urus nameplate was initially rumored to be attached to a new Aventador replacement, but if the Chinese whispers are correct, then Urus will be an SUV rather than another supercar.

The Chinese whispers also went onto report that the three door SUV will use a face similar to the Estoque Concept.

Urus sounds like something anatomically tied with pissing.
