Peugeot HR1 concept

Peugeot HR1 Concept is the Latest French Hybrid
Quote:
Like the SR1 concept we previously explored in Geneva, the HR1 puts Peugeot's HYbrid4 technology to work. The HR1 pairs a 1.2-liter gasoline inline-three with 108 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque to an electric motor rated at 27 continuous horsepower and 74 continuous pound-feet of torque. The motor can put out a peak horsepower of 36 and peak torque of 147 pound-feet of torque. To offer the requisite all-wheel-drive capability, the internal combustion engine is only connected to the front wheels and the electric motor is hooked to the rear axle. An electronically controlled six-speed manual handles transmission duties but the driver can choose between sequential or automatic operation as it comes with both a standard gear selector and paddle shifters.

Outside, we're seeing a bit of the Nissan Juke (minus the distinct front fascia design) as Peugeot says the HR1 is part "city run-around, coupe, [and] SUV." The electric scissor doors are appropriate for tight urban parking spaces and the interior is finished with a "High-Tech Coupe" driving position. A "man-machine interface" has a movement recognition feature that allows drivers to scroll through and select vehicle functions quickly and adeptly with simple hand gestures. The "stowaway seat" system can be configured to seat an extra third or fourth person according to need while the variety of technology highlight Peugeot's ongoing commitment to unifying driver and passengers with the concept car.

When the gas engine is on, the HR1 emits just 0.28 pounds of CO2 emissions per mile. On the European cycle, Peugeot estimates its concept to achieve 81 combined mpg, which isn't bad at all for a vehicle weighing 2500 pounds. Interestingly, it also has something called "pseudo MacPherson front suspension" and a torsion-beam rear, along with electric power steering.
