Yep, as seen in the vids, the vertical partitions are to make the roll up windows smaller. Hope it was to save costs because otherwise, as a design, it's ugly as hell. Vids also prove that the partitions are distracting and annoying from the inside. Some 80s domestic design cues shouldn't be brought back.

Damn, but Honda's making some ugly ass-ends these days. No wonder the Optima beat the Accord this year.

And Kia has their 200hp in the 2-door Forte Koup coming out, as well. I'm certain they'll out-price Honda and, perhaps, get better gas mileage. This is another example of what Toyota's NOT doing right anymore.

Oh well. Should be VERY interesting in the 2+2, 200hp wars over the next couple of years!

New Honda Civic
Quote:
The new Honda Civic will evolve the dramatic styling of its predecessor judging by this official image of the car.

Previewed ahead of its official debut at next month’s Frankfurt motor show, the new Civic gets rear LED light clusters that are sculpted in the shape of wings. They are joined together by a higher-set bar, which splits the rear windscreen.

Honda is promising a 'two generation' step in ride quality in the all-new UK and European designed and engineered Civic. Class leading interior space levels and improved ride comfort are also promised, along with a range of new, more powerful and fuel efficient engines.

More like a elongated light across the rear w/ top of the rear hatch is lower than the rest of the car.

2012 European Honda Civic
Quote:
Honda is promising much-improved dynamics and a higher-quality interior for the new, ninth-generation Civic, which has made its debut at the Frankfurt motor show and will go on sale in the UK on October 1.

Honda says the strong identity of the current European Civic led engineers and stylists to refine the current package instead of following the usual Civic template of radically altering the concept with each new generation.

Many of the changes have come about following consultation with customers. Their approval of the previous car’s futuristic design led to the basic look and proportions being retained, but with improved aerodynamics and rear and side visibility. The result, says Honda, is the most aerodynamic car in its class, with a claimed drag coefficient of 0.27.

Chief among the changes under the bonnet will be the adoption of a crucial new 1.6-litre diesel. However, this engine will not be available from launch but is tipped to follow later in 2012. The initial engine line-up consists of revised versions of today’s 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre petrol units and the 2.2 i-DTEC diesel from the Accord, each with improved performance, economy and CO2 emissions, which are as low as 110g/km in the 2.2 diesel.

Honda's 'hot' Civic
Quote:
New Honda Civic chief engineer Mitsuru Kariya has confirmed to Autocar a faster ‘Type R style’ car is under development.

Honda initially ruled out building a Type R style version of its new Civic, because the company felt it didn’t meet with its mass-market, environmentally led credentials.

However, following President Takanobu Ito's push to renew Honda's sporting credentials – a more hardcore Civic will now be sold. However, it may not carry the Type R name.

“It [the performance version] is already under discussion,” said Kariya. “We know Type R was a big success, especially in the UK market, and we are now looking for a car to be developed in that direction. Whether it will be called Type R is not certain though.”

At one point the Type R variant accounted for 15 per cent of Honda’s total Civic sales.

Honda Civic Type-R Set To Return

Honda Civic Type R is back
Quote:
The new Civic Type R will have a turbo engine

The next Honda Civic Type R will not only be the fastest version yet – it’s tipped to be Honda’s first-ever turbo road car. And our sources in Japan say tuning expert Mugen is already well underway with development.

Instead of the previous 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine, it will use a 2.0-litre turbo designed to comply with Euro V emissions regulations. A similar engine will feature in Honda’s 2012 British Touring Car Championship challenger.

Adding a turbo will give more torque lower in the rev range, so a higher gear can be used more often to boost efficiency. Stop-start is also likely to be fitted.

Based on the new Civic seen at last month’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the Type R gets the standard car’s front grille, slim headlights and LED daytime running lights, although most of the bodywork will be uprated.

A front end with large mesh air intakes, a lower chin spoiler and chunky side skirts will boost the visual impact, while a rear diffuser and extended spoiler aim to increase stability at high speeds. Also helping the car’s balance in corners is the standard Civic’s longer, wider chassis; this should also improve ride comfort and grip.

The steering is set to be pin sharp, while the six-speed manual box will use a stubby gearlever for snappy changes. Plus, the suspension will be firm, to cope with track work as well as blasting down B-roads.

In a break from tradition that matches the turbocharged Ford Focus ST – a key competitor for the Type R – Honda will offer the car as a five-door only. Prices are expected to start from around £23,000 when it arrives in 2013.

^Somebody's guess.

Asia and Europe only.

Yeah I'm saying that's going to be the European Type R only. And of course yes we will never see this in the states. Instead we'll get another $12,000 body kit from Mugen with maybe slightly better larger sway bars and a stiffer suspension.

9th gen USDM civic MMR coming possibly as soon as 2013.

http://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?news_item_id=1007927

Quote:
Yesterday we received a bit of news that came as a little bit of a surprise. According to a source (who has been reliable in the past), Honda hosted a "Grassroots" meeting for West Coast Honda dealers yesterday. During this meeting, the dealers are said to have shared some of their comments and concerns about the 2012 Civic, and reportedly Honda's response was that a "very refreshed, and more aggressively styled Civic" would make its debut in December 2012, as a 2013 model.

We tried reaching out to some of the contacts we have in other regions to see if they had heard anything similar. The one that I heard back from indicated that they had not heard this information, but they had heard a few months back that there would be some tweaks to the '12 Civics (improved wheels/tires on the Civic LX, possibly some upgraded interior materials) and the car would be "relaunched" sometime in the near term.

Suffice it to say, we will be tracking this one.

Tjin Edition: 2012 Honda Civic

The 2011 SEMA Show in Las Vegas this November is gearing up to be a busy event for the crew over at Tjin Edition.

Interestingly, Tjin Edition says it was selected by Honda to build the only Civic Si Sedan at this year's SEMA event. Among other features, the beefed up Civic Si will sport a custom Wraptivo wrap, 19-inch Rotiform Concave BLQ wheels that hide a set of Baer brakes and a lowered suspension.

SEMA Preview: Turbocharged 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe by Fox Marketing
Quote:
The tuning firm says that the main focus of the build is to demonstrate the "reliability, and performance capability from Honda's new K24Z7 power plant" with an intercooled turbo kit that along with numerous other improvements, pushes the four-cylinder unit's output to over 450-horses.

Fox Marketing says that despite the fact it delivers more than two-times the output of the regular 201HP 2.4-liter i-VTEC engine, the turbocharged powerplant can provide "100,000+ reliable miles without blinking an eye".

The boosted Civic Si Coupe sports a number of other modifications including but not limited to, a lowered suspension, 20-inch wheels shod in Toyo Proxes 4 Tires size 255/30/20 up front and 255/35/20 at the back, larger brakes, a blue pearl exterior finish, an aero kit and Yonaka Ronin Racing Seats with factory Civic Si fabric inserts.

The team at Fox Marketing has been building SEMA Show cars for years (perhaps decades) and this might just be the most extreme example yet – although apart from the oversized 20-inch Vossen wheels, it might just be the team’s cleanest. Of note on the car, apart from the obvious custom widebody and aero kit provided from CarBodyKits.com, the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine has been tuned to make 450-hp. And for a touch of trivia, the turbo used to generate all that power is the very same one used on Honda’s LMP1/LMP2 race programs as well as on the 2012 IndyCar engines.

Next up is the Bisimoto car, taking Honda’s “a Civic for everyone” approach and applying it to the race track. While Honda says there’s a Civic for everyone, ranging from young males who want a fun-to-drive Si, to a hybrid for the granola types, Bisimoto has designed this show car to serve triple-duty as time attack car, a touring car and as a drag racer. And in true over-the-top SEMA style, it makes 1,004-hp.

Sitting between the two wildly modified cars on the show floor is a mildly customized Civic Si sedan, built using Genuine Honda Accessories and some custom Honda Factory Performance wheels. Plus, it’s been wrapped by Wraptivo in a matte-silver to help it fit in at SEMA.
