2009 Nissan 370Z

Nissan 370Z coming with 330hp
Quote:
Back in August 2007 while flipping through Motor Trend, we found a little article reporting that Nissan will be rebadging the 350Z as a 370Z, replacing the 3.5 liter unit with the Infiniti G37’s 3.7 liter engine. That will give the 350Z an output boost of 30 horsepower for a total of 330.

A print version of AutoCar is now reporting that the 370Z will make its official debut at the Paris Motor Show this fall and will go on sale in 2009 as a 2010 model.

Well let’s hope for a little improvement in the 0-60 time and for the pricing to remain under $30k.

They're under $30k now -- to start. Most are mid-30's once you get above the base model though. It's like the ads that say "starting at $22,000, as shown $38,000.

First thing I was going to say as well. Is it true that the G37's performance is only a little bet better than the G35's due to the additional weight?

I hope the 370Z gets a minor facelift as well. Surprisingly, LOTS of 350z's roam NY streets, for both men and womein in auto and manual form. My buddy got his 350z with bolt ons, coilovers, and gunmetal Work wheels on his stock bodied silver 350z . His simple look goes a long way. A lot of the body kits for the car look like trash, if not all of them. Only a couple lip kits look good to me IMO, like Jintei's.

good, solid car - I just don't like to drive it - it doesn't deliver the fun

I don't know what the 370Z will be like, but I assume more of the same thing - more weight, but more power - no real increase in performance but they can say "my Z has 330 hp!" and feel good, and it'll help the salesmen sell cars.

its just a fact - most morons never bother to think of the car's weight, just the power.

A lot of people like driving them. I don't. I like a more fluid experience. You kind of have to grab the Z by the scruff of the neck and tell it what to do, whereas in an MR-2 /Boxster/Miata/RX car you're telepathically involved, where you think is where the car goes.

I've driven the 03 and 07 Z and they def. improved. And what marc just said is very true, it doesn't have that feeling that it's an easy car to control, I'd rather get an s2k over one of those personally but it's still a great car.

And I'm just going to assume that the 30 extra hp will be wasted with the extra weight, but we'll see.

Z's are kinda fast, kinda fun. They just don't really excel at anything.

They excel at being above average. Like a playoff team that never wins the big show.

They're like that car you always start out with in the ridge racer gamers that it decent at everything but specializes in nothing.

That red rendering looks good IMO. Too bad it'll be a 4,000 lb porker by the time you add options, a driver, and mold the new look.

the price range of the 370Z might just be under 30k but probably be heavier than 350Z

great, more idiots are gonna buy this. none of my friends and I have any good things to say about the new Z's. they're good and all, but the majority of owners are f*ckin' jerks. I can't tell you how many times a Z has harassed on my crappy GT. It's like they HATE YOU for driving on the same road.

As a former Z owner, IMO humble opinion, Nissan destroyed the Z with the decision to use its engine in almost every high end vehicle in their line, including their Infiniti division. There is absolutely nothing about the car that makes it stand out anymore. The fact that the "G" is essentially a fancier Z just irks me beyond belief. Combine that with the fact that some high end Maxima or Altima essentially has your engine, it just makes you wonder.. WTF is the point?

The Z should be a shiny rock in Nissan's crown, like it used to be. Instead, its just a car that can't decide if its a true sports car, or just a bad decision when you can have extra seats, AWD, or a nicer interior with the companies other options.

Seems like for a while there every Nissan had a 3.5L engine, either standard or as an option: Z, Murano, Maxima, Altima, Pathfinder, Quest. Then all the Infinity's. Were they all derivatives of the same engine?

Combine that with the fact that some high end Maxima or Altima essentially has your engine, it just makes you wonder.. WTF is the point?

The Z should be a shiny rock in Nissan's crown, like it used to be. Instead, its just a car that can't decide if its a true sports car, or just a bad decision when you can have extra seats, AWD, or a nicer interior with the companies other options.
It's always nice to point out to Z owners that they share their motor with a minivan.

The Infiniti variants are the same 3.5L VQ as well. It's a great engine, but I agree they should have come up with something a little more distinct for a "sports car". But I guess to Nissan has the mentality of "why mess with a good thing..." Same thing is happening with the 3.7L as well. I'm sure within 2 years all their V6's will have that as well.

Not only the engine makes the car. Not that the rest of the car is the greatest design ever, but still you cannot compare an altima with a Z just because they share an engine.

If you put a dedicated engine on a car, the car will have a higher price, and then, it wont sell so many units.

I also like to point out that it has 2 seats and 2 doors yet manages to weigh only 20 pounds less than an STi with 4 seats, 4 doors and AWD.
