The SoCal Photography Thread v2

Starting a new thread. The old one started to lag a few pages ago.

Here's to the people that kept the old thread alive and to the people that had shared their own photos over the 5 years since the original thread started.

Once again, refrain from posting anything Celica related, especially if it's your own Celica. You've got your own Readers Ride thread for that.

It's a POS just to let you know. I would suggest getting a lens intended for what you are interested in shooting.

x2

The only "attachments" I'd get are tele-converters and quality filters.

Here's yesterday's sunset (12.13.2012). I noticed a lot of SoCal people posting similar pics on Instragram at around the same time I posted mine.

so guys i have another question. long story short my 18-55mm lens broke and im looking for something that will be a good replacement. I like shooting people (close up and full body shots), cars (rolling shots, close up, full body and occasional landscapes), and video usually car stuff. i know ill probably need two lenses but i was looking at this...

Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM Pancake Lens - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...F_Pancake.html

or

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Autofocus Lens - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...0mm_f_1_8.html

but for people who care my son dropped my camera and now the lens wont focus or zoom in or out on its own. First Lesson keep all expensive shit away from toddlers FML... Is it even worth fixing? took it to a shop and they said they are such common lenses that i could find one for dirt cheap? but they retail more the lenses i posted above?

Like JT said, the 40mm and 50mm lens are prime lenses (fixed). There is no adjustable zoom.

You should pick up either one, though. I like both of them.

What you list as your picture taking preferences suggests that you get another 18-55, but a better one. I assume yours probably didn't come with Image Stabilization (IS).

I think there are 2 iterations of the 18-55mm IS. If my memory is correct in that there are 2 versions, the later version is supposed to be much sharper.

Those lenses are cheap to replace. How much will it cost to fix it?

What I would do:
1. Replace broken lens with a new (or used) Canon 18-55mm IS II <--VERSION TWO (you figure out how to tell between the two versions).

2. If have spare cash then pick up one of those prime lenses.
