My Raven 6-Speed Scion FR-S - 56K warning

My new toy!

Picked it up yesterday from a local dealership. I just happened to call minutes after the person who was slated to receive this one backed out. Apparently he thought he ordered an automatic. Unfortunate for him. Very fortunate for me

Got a few decent pictures tonight. Plan on taking more tomorrow. Hopefully some engine bay shots while it's still clean and shiny!

Still trying to decide whether to finish the SCCA autocross season in the celica or to drive the FRS. I'll be running the FRS with a local miata club on June 17th for certain though. I'll see if I can't get some video. Can't wait to turn off the traction control!

Nice! What are your plans for it? And are you gonna keep the celi, or sell it later down the road?

Keeping the celica! The body is in too poor of shape to be worth anything and I have far too much time invested in it to see it go! One will be developed for autocross, the other will have to stick with daily driving duty and the occasional event. It depends largely on how the SCCA classes the FRS this June.

I'd take some pics of the two together... but the celica is... very very rough, it would kill the picture:

I actually like the wheels. Not fan that they put a thin little 215 on a 17 inch wheel though..

I totally agree on the exhaust. I think that will be the first upgrade. The tips look far too small for the bumper cutouts and I want something that lets that lets that throaty boxer engine growl like it should!

Throw your GTS stockies on the FR-S. Lets see how they fit. Is the hub the same size? I assume uu have some nice sticky tires on them.

Nice pick up . I see the head unit is the same as the tC2. Hows the sound system? I know.in my friends 2012 TC,there was too much bass and not enough balance with mids and highs.

Hehe. I actually am going to see if the GTS stockies will fit on the FRS when I get the chance this weekend. From a quick eyeball it looked like they would clear the calipers. Pretty certain the hub size is 5x100 as well. Unfortunately I don't have great tires on the GTS right now. My class only allows street tires and I've been using a heavily used set of Yokohoma S. Drives trying to finish them off. I was planning on geting a set of Dunlops, but I'll wait to see if where the FRS gets classified so I know whether I should be getting racing slicks or street tires for the 16 inch wheels.

I'll be honest I'm not thrilled with the sound system. It's pretty decent, but the Scion Head Unit lacks the tuning options of the Alpine 9886 that is in my GT-S. I haven't been able to get a good balance yet. It seems as if I can get ok Bass or Good High's, I can't get anywhere close to both and the Mids seem to be left out altogether. The speakers themselves do not seem to be the issue. The bass gets somewhat distorted a bit too easily, but I didn't expect a great sound system in the car so I won't complain about it too much

The FR-S is lower (at least compared to a celi stock height )and slightly shorter in length(abt 4inches).

ok. I can probably get a pic of the two next to each other tomorrow, but yes the FR-S is slightly shorter (length) and sits lower. Doesn't help my celica is still at stock ride height and looks like a monster truck rofl.

More Pics! Gave her a bath today and put on another 100 miles or so. I think I'm sitting at around 315 now!

MMM Boxer engines!

Engine bay is layed out pretty well, though I'm not certain where a good place to route a CAI is going to be :/ Doesn't seem like many good places.

The engine sits so low, the top of the block is literally below my knees. One major advantage of the Boxer engine!

Took a couple pics of the celica and FR-S together today. Try to ignore the celica as best you can. It's ugly and very dirty.

Angles aren't the greatest, but the celica does seem to be slightly longer than the FR-S, but not by much

Here's one other one I had

I'll try to get a few more interior shots tomorrow.

Haha Not sure how much lower I'd want to go! The car is already extremely low, any lower and I'd be at risk of scraping the ground. I'll probably care less after I pull up to close in a parking spot and scratch the front bumper, but for now I'm comfortable with the stock ride height.

Still trying to decide what to do with debadging... fairly certain I want to remove the "FR-S" but I'm thinking I'll leave the Scion emblems, don't feel like having to cove up the alignment holes.

-MAaaaaannn...I hella want one!
But, I know they'll make their next following yrs better by adding something (Radio Controls on the Steering Wheel, TRD Supercharged and etc).
I'm also looking forward in seeing SCION's FR-S Special Edition models.

Wow when side by side the FRS looks kind of bulky compared to the Celica, even though I know it's tiny. Love the FRS aggressive front bumper Wish they did something more with the engine bay like cover up with plastic, so many pipes running everywhere; and that oil filter looks like it's going to get messy when taking it off.

Generally speaking, it's nice to see the Celica and FR-S side by side.

Not as messy as you think. A lot of times they have a valve or only fill when there's pressure.

I love how nice the steering wheel and shifter are and hate how ugly the seats, radio, and climate control are. It's like the EU/JP versions are the way it was meant to be and once it got sent to Scion they just ripped out all the good parts and put in crappy, cheap parts to replace them and only left the steering wheel and shifter untouched

No pictures or work done to it today, I got kind of lazy and decided to just drive it instead. Took it out on some backroads near the cowfields around me and had fun. Mostly just cruised around, but I had quite a bit of fun with some of the twistier roads and sharp turns.

Swung by an abandoned parking lot after dinner and turned off the traction control for a bit. It REALLY can get sideways without too much effort. Didn't ge too carried away as most of the lot was overgrown with grass and had a ton of potholes. Not certain why, but for some reason traction control kept switching back on even when the stability control was in sports mode... I'd swing the rear end out, get the tires spinning, but if I let off the throttle the TCS would turn itself back on. I'll have to consult the manual more to see what I'm doing wrong.

Up to 450 miles on it. On track to hit 1,000 by the next autoX, though I think it's probably well on it's way to being broken in already

Lol, Generally yes it is good to see the two side by side, but I'd prefer it if my celica weren't such a mess appearance wise!

I agree, I don't see why Scion thought it was necessary to remove all of those features for the U.S. version. As some have pointed out on club86, the FR-S is only around 2,500 cheaper than a BRZ premium and yet it lacks HID lights, Alcantara interior, the dual zone climate controls a lot of the interior refinement, Nav, satellite radion and many other features as well.

That being said, I'm fully satisfied with the FR-S so far, I'm less concerned about the creature comforts and in many ways I like the idea of a no frills performance machine, the problem is Scion half-assed it. They could have a offered a premium option version with all the frills and then a trimmed down sportier version without the premium stereo, polished interior and some of the other features. Instead what they gave us was a single model that doesn't quite satisfy people of either camp...

I love how good the Celica still looks next to a 2013 even though it's a 13 year old design, nice car though bud

Beautiful car, love the black. Black almost makes the stockies look okay. Agree it needed engine covers. I'm still waiting to see one in person to fell the size of it, can't really get the true perception in pics and description, it's supposedly almost miata-sized, but looks almost Celi-sized here.
