I miss me the days of the RX-7 where you had to be under 5'8" to fit into it.

Wow - that concept drawing is seriously Hot. I love it. I would be VERY tempted by the STI version of that

I'm gonna wait and see how the Toyota version looks. Living on a small island has it's advantages: we can import directly from Japan without worries.

If the price difference isn't too great, I'd definitely go for the STi version... I also dig the bug-catcher hood scoop.

I have to admit that the fanboy in me is disappointed that the Toyota version won't be sold here, tho'... :-/

Interesting. I liked the new gen Impreza's looks over the new gen EVO and this coupe variant looks crazy. A bit gawdy, to be honest, but if it puts down good figures, it'll be a definate plus.

With the Toyota version not being sold in the states, it would be possible to import one, wouldn't it? Assuming someone wanted to undergo all the BS and money it would take to get one (while like Beast said, rebadge it and piss off the Subie folks, making it cheaper).

Again...I think they're saying it won't be advertized as a Toyota because they might send it over to the youth oriented Scion department

Not sure about the STI version though. I bet they'll just offer up a cheaper, and stripped down version of the NA flat four variant as a Scion. They don't want to have another SRT-4 on their hands with mass totaled vehicles now...I just hope the new 260 hp / 260 ft*lb turbocharged 2008 Cobalt SS crew aren't kids and do the same...

Not indestructable, but they are one of the best looking head lights ever created.

Nissan has tried many similar ones, and so far I dont think any of them got anywhere near the looks of the 7th gen.

Ben, please moderate this thread before it does a complete 180-degree from the original subject. Don't let this become a "Celica headlights on [insert car]" picture thread.

It's a shame that we won't get the diluted version in the States.

How is that a POS?

It out performs EVERY celica ever made.

Yes its hideous, but it has never been marketed or designed to be a 'looker'.

2011 Toyota Compact FR Sports
Quote:
Cost cutting is proving to be a problem for Toyota's compact FR sports car.

As is usual for many Japanese car magazines (Best Car and Holiday Auto in particular), renders are aways included in the article to give the reader an idea of what the final car could look like. These images from Best Car of Toyota's compact FR sports car are only "informed guesses", however, we are told that Toyota has decided on the final shape of the compact FR sports car and that it will have a "wonderful style", in an attempt to change peoples opinions of Toyota and its bland image.

Based on a 100mm shorter Subaru Legacy platform, the Toyota compact FR sports car still retains the 2.0L four cylinder boxer engine from the Impreza with a power output of 190ps (with a development goal of 200ps) and 21.0kg/m of torque. With the low positioning of the boxer engine Toyota hopes to achieve a low center of gravity which in turn will dictate the low profile of the body, making it a sleek and attractive FR sports car. Weight is expected to be around 1200kg, so even with a moderate output from the 2.0L engine, performance is expected to appeal to younger buyers who are looking at an entry level sports car - much like AE86 buyers were 25 years ago. A 6-speed gearbox will be offered initially with an automatic transmission being offered later and the possibility of an open top version as well.

The compact FR sports car is still expected to go on sale for around 2,000,000 yen.
The rendering looks like the ******* child of a tC and the first gen. Lexus SC.

It just needs a big, obnoxious sopiler on the rear decklid

Are we still only getting the Subie version? Any news on that and on what it will look like?

^ it'll be out soon, but it hasn't proved itself a good rwd car just yet. not to mention it'll be a porker compared to this conceptual "toyotaru". time will tell.

Insider: Toyota to Bring Subaru Co-developed RWD Coupe as a Scion TC in 2011
Quote:
Further details weren't provided but from what we know up until now, both the Toyota / Scion and Subaru variants of the two-seater compact coupe will get an all-new platform with power coming from a new 2.0-liter four-cylinder boxer engine producing around 200HP.
Would you still buy the car if it was badged a Scion instead of a Toyota? You can always get the Subaru variant instead if Scion isn't to your liking. It's coming...

I'll get whichever one is more tuner friendly... that will probably wind up being the subaru.

Still, nice to know that we'll have both options here

Subaru RWD Concept To Debut At Detroit?

Quote:
While various autmotive manufacturers are backing out of the Detroit Motor Show, Subaru has something abrewing for the show. Announcing that they will be releasing a new concept at the event, speculators are now debating whether or not the RWD concept that Subaru has been working on with Toyota will be making a debut, and for good reason. The concept is scheduled to go on sale somewhere in between 2010 and 2011, and a concept should be due for some public feedback pretty soon. With the show just around the corner, we expect the news (if any) to leak out at any given moment. Stay tuned at GT Channel for the latest update.
