I live in the Las Vegas, Nevada area and would love to see, in person, how my Vibe GT stacks up against a Celica GT-S. The magazines put them a few 1/10ths apart, making it a drivers race... But as someone pointed out in another thread, you can't go by the mags.
So incase you haven't guessed yet, I'm looking for a Celica GT-S in the Las Vegas area... I've had the Vibe a few months and during this time have NEVER seen a GT-S in the Vegas area. I've seen a lot of the GT around, never lined up with one though... If any of you have a GT and think you'll spank my Vibe GT, that's fine too.
Perhaps a mini-meet at the LVMS Drag Strip? :headbang:

A few tenths is quite a bit. You are kidding yourself tremendously. You keep thinking it is a drivers race. It is not. By a long shot. Not only that, the disparity gets bigger at topend when the areodynamics play a big part. I am not coming at you in a negative way, I am just trying to see where you think it wiould be a drivers race. When does lift engage on a vibe?

I believe its the same as ours ive driven a vibe since I work on them all the time since im a mechanic and I think its just alittle bit slower.

I think it would be a closer match for a Matrix XRS
The Vibe GT and the Matrix XRS are the same. They both have the 2ZZ-GE engine. I think the GTS will definitely be faster. Less weight and better aerodynamics. But it would fun to see how close it is by comparison.

On a matrix lift engages later than 6200 correct?

Seems like people love speculating but that no one is in Vegas to actually test it out? And personally, i DO NOT care if the Celica wins... As I thought I made quite clear (but obviously hadn't) in my first post, I just think it would be fun to compare the two.
Lift hits at 6200 in an '03 Vibe. As for the person that said a Matrix XRS would have a better chance, this shows only ignorance as there is absolutely nothing different between the Matrix XRS and the Vibe GT except their appearance.

Not Only Appearance I Think Weight To Power Ratio Has To Be One Of The Factors Correct Me If Im Wrong.
I'm afraid you are wrong. Perhaps there is some technicality that the Vibe comes with more options for less $ but as far as the cars go they have the exact same engine and weigh the same amount. The ratings on the engines have changed somewhat, however. In '03 Pontiac and Toyota were rating both cars at 180hp, since then that rating has dropped... With Toyota rating their '05 Matrix at only 164hp and Pontiac rating their '05 Vibe GT at 170hp. Lift engagement has been raised 300rpm every year after '03 (up from 6200rpm in '03), this may account for the lower HP rating.

According to Toyota.com the '05 Matrix XRS weighs 2800lbs.
According to Pontiac.com the '05 Vibe GT weighs 2780lbs.
If anything the Pontiac is lighter.

I think my 03 XRS is in the 2700's too. It would take a couple of BIG boys in the Celi to even out the weight/aerodynamics differance.
The weight difference is undeniable, but I believe at speeds only slightly above 90mph (in the 1/4 mile) that aerodynamics is negligible. In the 0-60, which is normally what I do (can afford the car payments, but not a ticket on top of that), aerodynamics between the Celi and the Vibe are most DEFINITELY negligible.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if the Celica GT-S won, it IS a sports coupe and the Matrix/Vibe is a 5 door wagon... I just would like to see how close it is! Plus, my Vibe GT has a lot of goodies:

Eibach 1.2" Pro Lowering Kit
SportMax Racing Rims
Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires
AEM Short Ram Intake
FlowMaster 60 Series Delta Flow Muffler
TRD Front STB (anti-roll bar)
Progress RSB (anti-roll bar)

I'd love to know how it would do against a stock GT-S but the likely-hood of one of you guys being from Vegas is so slim that any Celica will do!

Can we please have one of the better drivers of this board take their GTS up there and spank this vibe just to get it over with!! Perhaps someone running in the low to mid 14's!

:gay:
One of the better drivers huh? Worried the Celica needs one of the best drivers you've got behind the wheel?

Why not find a stock GT-S and see if a modded Vibe GT will keep up with it? =-D I like the sound of that better.

I'd perfer to see both the vibe and GT-S to both be bone stock that way we would get a fair comparison! Or we could get one of the N/A Gts's in here that are running high 13's and he could put bus lengths on you! But what fun would that be?
