Hi All,

i'm a novice when it comes to car audio wiring so any help is truly appreciated. i've a 2001 GT with stock speakers & HU. just received an apline spr-17ls componets speakers and i'm planning on replacing front speakers with it. i don't have any $$$ for amp right now and don't want to pay bestbuy for installation.

i removed door but don't know how to go about wiring. alpine spr-17ls has a 2way crossover and instructions tell me to connect tweeter and speakers to crossover but from there i'm pretty clueless... How do i wire spr-17ls using existing speaker & tweeter wires? found instructions for celica on teamcelica.com but i'm still stuck at wiring. please help....

hmm you need an amp. simple.. 1) its the only way to wire it correctly 2) your blow them from underpowering em.

thanks for the quick reply... if i get an amp do i need a new head unit also since stock HU does not have an amp output?
i dont think so.. if i remember there is an adapter you can get for it.. as far as taht goes im not sure.. but what are the specs of those speakers? got a link?

nope it only does 40 watts at 4 ohms.. you want 70.

^Are you both sure? i thought if you underpower or overpower any type of speaker that it will damage them?

Normal speakers (component/coaxial) arent as picky, because they have little to no excursion, compared to a sub. Its probably not good to power a 50w speaker with a 5w amp, but it wont necessarily hurt it, in comparison to a sub.

Thats what Ive been told, anyways.

so can you power like a 50 watt speaker with a normal headunit that puts out so 20w rms?

so do you just cut the stock speaker wire then run that to the crossover? then your own wire from there?
