Ok, please dont just start flaming. I know its -just- a cavalier, and I know its FWD, I dont care. We have a 2001 Cavalier Z24. When I first got my drivers license I really abused this car. To make a long story short the engine still runs completely fine but I wouldnt trust it to do any mods because of the abuse it has taken. The transmission is done for, it gets stuck in neutral a lot. However, the body and the interior are still in very good shape. So we have this paid off cavalier sitting here that cant be driven. Me and my dad want to do a project together and since we already own this and its sitting in our driveway its ideal. I was wondering if any one knew what kind of engines you could get into a 2001 Z24? We are looking for 300FHP, and convert it from an auto to a manual. The stock engine is a 2.4L 4cyl with 150HP. So my second question is other than a swap to a different engine how well would the stock 4 hold up against 300HP? Thanks a lot for the input.

your best bet would be to try and sell the car for whatever you can get, then use that on a project car. If selling isn't what you intend, then I'd head out to a local junkyard and look for, basically, a front end of your car/something similar to do the mt swap and have a spare engine to rebuild/work on.

300whp is doable, but you'll invest too much into a cavalier for that, better off trying to get a ls1 camaro, and work with it.

Agreed. The cavalier is very responsive to modifications, but it's a money pit. And after all that work, you are just going to have a fast Cavalier.

I would get the transmission fixed and sell it. You won't get much for it, but you can easily buy a late model Camaro for cheap.
