even if your gonna flush it you still need to bleed the system so you can drive the car to wherever to get it flushed...
I'd fine out what kind of thermostat. I wouldn't put anything but OE on for that type of part
this.... ^^ seriously just do it.
its very uncommon a thermostat to fail shut. there designed to fail open. there for very little heat can be built up for your core.

seriously dude. burp that system. otherwise your gonna waist a **** ton of money paying someone else to diagnose it. since your mechanic cant do his job take it to a shop. or burp in yourself. quit dancing around on it.

i'd almost swear you were trolling..... based on how naive you are on not wanting to burp it for 10000 reasons.

its not that I don't want to...but I really don't have any kind of experience with any of this and even thought the guide seems simple enough, I'm still kind of hesitant to try it myself without knowing EVERYTHING there is to know about it so I don't mess anything up. Let me put it this way: I've WATCHED others change the oil on my car, but I've never attempted to do it myself.

For example: If I have green coolant, I would have to burp it and refill with green... but that only means I'm gonna have to do it again once I get the flush for the Toyota coolant.
BTW, I've been riding around with the car like this since June but I just recently noticed the heater didn't work because I didn't need it back then and I thought the temperature going crazy was the coolant temp sensor acting up.

wow really since june? the only way your gonna learn is to do it man. you'll just have follow the guide and do it. and if you want toyota coolant. which you know you should. then just drain and fill it buddy. and then begin to burp it.

just have to get out there and get to work. or have a buddy who is really good at wrenching. every set up is a little different. so thats why you do your homework. like you have here. and just get it done! if he has issues just show him this site. and the guides to walk him through it.

 :faint:
Might as well blow the ****ing motor up then jesus!
A flush usually includes a refill, and the mechanic doing the re-fill will bleed the system for you.
I really can't believe that you thought it was a bad sensor, moreso did this without looking up how to do it or even double checking your work until now.
Don't be suprised if you have more problems with that motor down the road....

I thought it was a bad sensor because when it started overheating in June, I would immediately stop the car, turn it off, and open the hood and noticed NO extreme heat coming from the engine bay. It seemed normal temperature. Then when I would out the ignition on again, the temp gauge would read normal so I thought "no way it cooled down that fast if it was really overheating."

did what? I didn't do anything so what work would I be double checking? In any case, my dad offered to pay Toyota for a coolant flush tomorrow morning so hopefully that'll fix the problem... damn stealership $189.95

Got my car back from Toyota. They didn't do anything. They said they would not perform the coolant system flush because of "excessive oil and coolant leaks" so its "not recommended" to flush because the pressure might break something...JUST MY LUCK. I really do own the crappiest GT-S....sigh....

They said the hoses are leaking and in horrible condition, leaking radiator cap, oil leaking from oil pressure switch and some other part I don't remember...

I accomplished NOTHING today. I just took my car back and they didn't charge me anything.

Well atleast you now know what you have to do to make your car run right.
All those parts are easy to swap. Really are. My pet ferret could do it....

And they didn't charge you which is another plus

Thanks. I'm taking it Monday to a friend's mechanic. He says he trusts him with anything because he's always fixed all the problems he's had with every one of his cars. Hopefully, I'll have better luck then.

I just came back from bleeding the system. Air bubbles came out but no still no heat. I did realize that every hose got hot EXCEPT for the passenger side radiator hose and the more hidden of the two heater hoses. What's this mean? Did my mechanic install a faulty thermostat? or something else?

I am currently having the exact same problem with my celica mine said over heating and no head tried thrmo nothing just did water pump last night nothing i fear the worst... head must come off...

Nevermind. The cooling system works nice now. The temp gauge doesn't overheat anymore and the heater works nicely. I guess that was it.
