Mine does that too, I think its perfectly normal. Maybe it does that because our alternator is keeping it above 12 to keep our battery charged? that would be my guess, but I'm probably way off.

Standard wet cell charge voltage = 14.2-14.4VDC

2way is right. The chemical reaction to store electrons require more energy than the output. Think of it like a balloon. You need more pressure to blow into the balloon so it can store the air.
