wdup everyone... finally registered on this site i've been through it numerous times just never registered. I'm looking into buying new wheels and tires for my White 2000 Toyota Celica GT-S. anyway I was wondering if I could get some insight on the pros and cons of 18s vs 19s on 00+ Toyota Celicas. Also all wheel fitment specs for plus sizing on Celicas w/o the use of a wide body or fender flare. Any and all input would be appreciated. THANKS (I'm leaning towards 19s)

I tend to not be biased with anything I like everything to a point where it has to look good and be decent. But most of my advice will lean to the extreme side of modding Celica's. Hope this advice helps you figure what you want. I'd say if you're looking to go 19's I agree with what everyone else says you need to have a clean looking kit don't do it on a stock Celica it'll look awkward. 18's tend to look the best on a stock Celica depending on the wheel design. I've been through so many wheels it all depends on what your looking for. When I first had my Celica in 2000 I just wanted something to drive around with.

I started with Axis Seven before the Axis mods even came out I bought them with my car from the dealer on my Celica when it was Silver then Gold then Silver again. I upgraded to many times but here's my wheel list over the past 6 years.

2000 - Axis Seven - 17x7
2001 - 1 set Gold Advan RG's in 17's wrapped in Pirelli P7000's. <<old school
2002 - 2 sets of Volks GT series
First set were 18x7.5 GT-N Gunmetal (inspired by the red dragon reason why
I bought them)
2002 - 2nd set 18x8.0 Volkracing GT-C's Gunmetal in custom offset with Pirelli P7000's again.
2003 - 2004 M-Sports in Gunmetal Sponsored by ADR in sizes 19x8.5 all around sponsored by Falken
2005 - 19x8.5 & 19x9.5 Axis Mesh wrapped in Yokohama Advan Tires
2006 - 19x8.5 & 19x10 custom offset tires sponsored by Yokohama wrapped in AVS brand awating the new S-Drive model that's not out yet in the states but already out in Japan.

Anyway, if you're choosing a wheel size 19's is max you can pull off. Anything bigger won't work properly with heavy modification to the suspension. Key to the appearance of the wheels is offset it's the key to not rubbing, rolling your fenders will help for clearance and a good camber kit so you can pull off the look that's if you're into show you'd want to get some 19's. 19's have heavier weights though around 40lbs being the lightest up to 50 lbs depending on brand this is with tire on and air inflated to the proper PSI so you'll be lugging 200 lbs at max if you go 19's. They look amazing though if you do it right. But you won't be going fast and don't expect to drag race. I don't like seeing big wheels on Celica's that don't look right it's just wrong.

So if you're into daily 18's are perfect and tires run decent for a set of 18's. You will still able to use your spare tire.

Word of advice I no longer use my spare tire with my setup and never have since 3 years of owning 3 sets of 19's. If you have a custom 19 wheel size invest in some run flats. You don't want a blow out and be screwed make sure you have good insurance I have AAA and they can cover my tow with unlimited mileage and I use a certain guy for towing if you drive daily. I've run into situations where I couldn't get on a flat bed and I had to get my own towing service. It comes in handy if you have a show car or you daily drive and if you're expecting to do shows and cruise your car into the venue.

Anyway, if you're not really wanting to go extreme get some decent 19's that fit correct if you don't you'll run into a lot of problems. Get 18's if you want to save money 19's aren't a cheap investment.

In my personal opinion, 19s take too much work just to make the whole thing look right. Not only are the rims expensive, but tires are too (since you have to go low-profile). You also have to upgrade your suspension: could be cheap if you just go with springs, or could be a little expensive if you go with coilovers. And then there's the right bodykit ... not only do you have to find the right one to go with your setup, you also have to worry about painting ...

And THEN there's the drawbacks of 19s, mainly the huge power loss that comes with unsprung weight and more risk to denting/curbage ...

there are drawbacks to 19's but when you sit back and look at them it's all worth it... ;)

Once you go 19's you don't go back! Trust me.
