Audi Sportback Concept

According to our source at Audi, the Sport back is in fact larger than the A6, and it is built on Audi's new modular longitudinal build kit (LBK), which is adjustable for length, width, and height depending on packaging needs. The same chassis setup will likely form the basis for future larger Audi's, including the production version of the Sport back which is expected to be dubbed A7.

The rear looks good, IMO. But do we really need another 4 door coupe?

2011 Audi A7 Sportback

The 2012 A7 was previewed by the Sportback concept shown at last year’s Detroit Auto Show and is said to share a similar look with the A8, but oriented more into luxury than functionality. The official debut will be made in September at the Paris Auto Show. On sale in the spring of 2011, the A7 will compete with models like the Mercedes-Benz CLS, the Porsche Panamera, and the Aston Martin Rapide.

Under the hood of the future A7, Audi will use three different direct gasoline injection engines including a 2.8 Liter FSI and 3.0 Liter TFSI V6s as well as a 4.0 Liter TFSI V8. The alternatively fueled diesel options include a 2.7 Liter V6 and both turbocharged and twin-turbocharged versions of the existing 3.0 Liter TDI V6. All engine choices will be mated to a seven speed dual clutch automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive.

Audi A7 Sportback images leaked

Tomorrow afternoon, Audi will formally unveil the new A7 Sportback at a museum in Munich. While that fanfare will go on as scheduled, as is so often the case nowadays, the big reveal has been undercut somewhat as leaked official images have made their way onto the web a day early.

Most of Audi's cars are pretty much upscale VW's anyways with exception to the ones optioned with quattro drivetrain. The only Audi I'd love to own is the R8.

Audi actually sells its Quattro drivetrain in longitudinal engine VWs as 4motion.

The transverse engined AWD VWs (R32) and Audis (TT, A3) don't even have real TorSen Quattro - they have Haldex systems.

i can swear that my dealership in the past had a V10 S7 A7 or whatever.

It wasn't an A8 and it had a v10 on the side in chrome.

It wasn't a R10 or R8 either.
