2012 Dodge Magnum
Chrysler is considering bringing the Magnum nameplate back for a new crossover to replace the Durango. New U.S. patent drawings have leaked onto the inter-webs, giving us a good look at how the new Magnum will appear when it hits the road

Underpinnings are expected to be borrowed from the highly anticipated new Jeep Grand Cherokee, with 280-horsepower 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 and 360-hp V8 5.7L V8 on offer.

Dodge Fan Renders 2012 Durango SUV from Official Sketches
Andrew Currie from the 'Cheersandgears' forums took a couple of these sketches and rendered them to offer us a more realistic view of Dodge's full-size SUV.

The Durango's successor is believed to ride on the same or lengthened version of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee platform, which was developed alongside the next generation Mercedes-Benz ML SUV.

Spy Photo 2011 Dodge Durango: Someone's Getting Fired Edition
We've seen the 2011 Dodge Durango before and we're still unsure if it even will be the Durango and not the 2011 Dodge Magnum. What we are sure about is that this spy photo, taken presumably in the heart of a Chrysler-owned facility-- note the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with which the Durango will share a platform, in the background--, is going to get someone in trouble. Manufacturers don't spend all of that money on fancy camo for nothing.

2011 Dodge Durango Interior Revealed
Here's a look at the interior of the redesigned 2011 Dodge Durango. We've seen plenty of photos of the exterior to date, including the recent batch of unauthorized blurry garage shots, but this is the first time anyone's gotten close enough to grab a photo of the cabin.

Cabin quality has never been a strong suit of the Durango, but there are some encouraging signs in this shot. Whereas the old Durango had a dull, dowdy cabin, the new design has some style to it and an upscale feel. Materials look respectable, and the individual-binnacle gauges appear reasonably attractive, if heavy on the brightwork. The fat-rimmed, three-spoke steering wheel is a nice touch. The navigation system looks to be Chrysler's standard corporate unit. Hopefully, updated software will improve some of the usability issues we've had with this system, but if nothing else, the screen is nice and big.

What you can't see here, of course, is the seven-passenger layout of the 2011 Durango. This has always been a three-row SUV, but it's going to downsize in this redesign. Historically, the Durango has used body-on-frame architecture (sharing its basic chassis with the Dakota pickup), but the new rig will be a unit-body design based on a stretched version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform. Actually, it's still not clear if Chrysler will call this vehicle the Durango, which went out of production last year. "Magnum" is the name we hear most often, though that nameplate carries its own sales-flop baggage.

Dodge Teases 2011 Durango
The Durango name lives on with Dodge’s new SUV.

We understand if your heart rate hasn’t increased yet. However, as Dodge is officially referring to this as a “performance SUV,” we’re confident we can expect an optional 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 underhood. To boost fuel economy, an eight-speed automatic transmission should accompany the Hemi. Miserly buyers will likely stick with the base engine, a Pentastar V-6 with about 280 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque.

From a styling standpoint, the Durango receives a handsome face like that of the Ram truck line, with its signature crosshair grille and a thick chin bringing the nose close to the ground. Out back is a much softer design that’s reminiscent of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, with a horizontal chrome bar connecting the taillights. As for the interior, look for amenities like push-button start, as well as vastly improved materials.

Dodge promises further info in the coming weeks, and you can follow along as the striptease continues at www.dodge.com/2011Durango.

2011 Dodge Durango Unveiled

2011 Dodge Durango Unveiled
Last month, we got our first official first glimpse of the next-generation Durango, but we're now able to see the muscular sport-ute in all its glory. Entering its third generation, the Durango looks less boxy, featuring a Charger-esque front end and a sleeker overall look. Rounded corners, a tall hood line, and a steeply raked windshield aid in keeping the Durango from looking too bulky. The large chrome rims featured on the model shown may signify that we're looking at a top-of-the-line trim package.

The 2011 Durango sits upon a lengthened version of the same platform that underpins the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Along with similarly-shaped taillights, the Durango will be powered by the same 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 and 5.7-liter V-8 as the Jeep, but the Durango's extended platform allows for a third row of seating.

Not gonna lie, I like it.
