Hyundai Veloster Futuristic Concept
Styled at Hyundai’s Design and Technical Center at Namyang, the Veloster (codenamed HND-3) coupe is the third in a series of daring concept cars to be developed by the central styling studio in Korea.

The Veloster name, a compound of velocity and roadster evokes the sporty characteristics of a classic two-plus-two. A panoramic glass roof and other futuristic styling cues help project a high-tech image.

Designed to cater to the tastes of the Y-generation, Veloster combines simple, iconic design with good value and robust construction.

“With Veloster, we wanted to try something really different. We’re keenly aware that we need radically new products for the Y-generation, the first-time twenties something buyer,” said Oh Suk-Geun, Hyundai’s vice president of design. “This is really a bold new direction,” he added.

It looked sooooo good on the first picture.... shame that after that I saw the other two...
agreed.

Why do design companies think everything has to look like a damn ipod? That white interior is disgusting.

And what's up with the disappearing pillars? I don't like it.

Despite the ridiculous looking glass roof and dash that appears to have some sort of scrimshaw etching, I think it has potential.

That said, it's a Hyundai, so it will never realize its potential, and instead be an utter POS.

Does that thing really need and interior rearview mirror? Oh wait, it's only to see the passengers in the back.

Veloster concept headed for production and America!
Thanks in part to good feedback, there was considerable speculation in 2007 that the front-drive showcar was being considered for production as a possible Scion tC fighter. In the intervening years since those rumors surfaced, however, Hyundai has gone on to roll out both concept and production versions of the Genesis Coupe, a development that seemingly extinguishing the Veloster's star. But all is not so – we have just learned from well-placed sources within Hyundai that the coupe (also known as the HND-3) has been given the green light. Furthermore, the car will not only reach production, it will find its way into U.S. dealerships, likely as a 2011 or 2012 model.

i thought it was gonna be an hybrid....but then when i saw it will compete against a TC..
Don't forget that the tC it's gonna compete against will be the Toyotabaru RWD lightweight sports car, not the FWD sh!tbox that currently holds the name.

This will also be competing with the CR-Z, to which it bears a striking resemblance.

New 2012 Hyundai Veloster coupe spy shots
According to John Krafcik, the CEO of Hyundai Motor America, the production-ready model will look 70-80% like the Veloster concept. When interviewed by Inside Line earlier this month, Krafcik also revealed the production version of the Veloster will sport a surprise bodystyle feature that has never before been seen in the small car segment.

Codenamed FS, the all-new Hyundai Veloster coupe is tipped to feature a host of new powertrain technologies under the hood, including a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, gasoline direct injection -GDI technology and dual-clutch automatic transmission.

It was revealed earlier this month that the showroom-ready Hyundai Veloster will be powered by 1.6L four-cylinder engine, which features direct injection technology and churns out impressive 140+ horsepower. The entry-level powerplant is expected to achieve over 40 mpg!

Another engine option, also rumoured to appear under the hood of new Hyundai Veloster, includes a 175-hp turbocharged 1.6L gasoline engine, which will likely be paired with Hyundai’s new dual-clutch automatic transmission.
