Is this the New Lotus Exige with a V6 Engine?
Well, the test car does not bear any resemblance to the recent Lotus concept models shown in Paris last year so given the prototype's shape and size, the most plausible explanation is a replacement for the Exige.

Moreover, earlier this year, Lotus CEO Dany Bahar hinted that the company was working a new Exige.

The pictures suggest that the new Exige (bear in mind, we don't know if Lotus will hang onto the name) sports a slightly longer rear overhang than the current model and a cleaner profile with sharper lines.

Our spies also reported that the test mule was wearing a V6 engine, possibly sourced from the Evora. The latter is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 unit churning out 280-horses in standard trim and 350HP when paired to a supercharger in the S model.

However, we'll have to wait and see if they're right or if Lotus will stay with a four-cylinder option for its mid-engined sports coupe. In any case, we'll keep you updated for any new developments.

New Lotus Exige Reveals itself in the Open
The developed model pictured appears to have a longer wheelbase and rear overhang than the outgoing Exige while the design is entirely new featuring a lower nose that resembles the styling of the Evora. Our spies told us that the car also looked wider than the older model.

Furthermore, this particular test car sported a prominent rear wing that was absent from the previously spied prototype.

It is believed that Lotus is looking to up the ante with the new Exige by offering it with the Evora's 3.5-liter V6 engine that generates 280-horses in standard trim and 350HP when paired to a supercharger in the S model.

Lotus' next generation Exige is due for launch sometime next year.

If anyone can get more flow from a Toyota engine, it's Lotus...

Update!

Lotus Exige S Reborn With Supercharged V6
Having been cut from the Lotus lineup only recently Lotus hasn’t wasted any time in bringing back it’s hard-core track superstar, the Exige. Looking remarkably similar to its predecessor, the new Exige S is a solid 10-inches longer and 2-inches wider than that car.

Perhaps the biggest change, however, is under the hood, with the Evora S’s supercharged 3.5-liter V6 making 345-hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the Evora S to 60 mph in a seriously quick 3.8 seconds. Such an impressive speed is also as a result of an ultra light 2,380 lb targeted curb weight.

Known for a return-to-basics type of driving, the new bosses at Lotus have added some high-tech wizardry to the Exige. And while purists might gasp, they should be impressed. Unique to the Exige is a new Lotus DPM (Dynamic Performance Management) switch that allows the driver to switch between three different driving models: Touring, Sport and DPM off. Plus, when equipped with an optional Race Pack (which includes Launch Control), a Race setting helps deliver maximum possible traction in corners.

Lotus Exige R-GT
Weighing in at around 2,600 lbs this race car trades the old Exige’s 4-cylinder for something close to what can be found out back in the Evora S – a supercharged 3.5L V6. Power makes it to the rear wheels using a sequential 6-speed transmission with paddle shifters.

All the necessary equipment is in place to meet FIA racing regulations (plus a few extra driving lights up front), although Lotus does point out that it has yet to get approval to officially campaign the car in motorsports. That’s is certainly the plan though.

I was in love with the outgoing Exige
This is that same Exige. Half of it, at-least. Under the skin, the first half of the car is the current Elise and the rear half is the Evora. And the new styling in the rear is to accommodate the V6. You could say it's a hybrid of sorts.

Lotus Goes Rallying with the Exige R-GT
Confirming previous reports, Lotus is returning to special stages in partnership with the Italian team United Business, which won the 2011 title. It will enter the FIA European Rally Championship with the Exige R-GT painted in its iconic black and gold colors.

"This will be the first GT car to be homologated by the FIA", says Lotus Racing Director Claudio Berro. "Lotus, of course, has been successful in rallying before, so in many ways we’re going back to our roots."

The Exige R-GT will undergo its final test next week before it is subjected to the FIA homologation process, and if everything goes by plan, it will enter the Mille Miglia rally on April 19-21, driven by former Super 2000 World Rally Champion Bernando Sousa.

The Duel Promo vid reminded me of Street Fighter II. Balrog vs a car that can fight back. :chuckles:
