Peugeot Reveals All-New 208 GTi Hot Hatch Powered by a 197HP 1.6L Turbo
The final production version of the new Peugeot 208 GTi, which was previewed in concept form at the Geneva Salon earlier this year, was officially introduced today ahead of its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show on September 27.

As with its 206 and 207 predecessors, Peugeot is once again making claims about "regenerating the values of the iconic 205 GTi".

It's also more powerful than the 175hp 207 RC / GTi as it is equipped with the same 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol found in the flagship version of the RCZ Coupe, which generates an output of 197hp (200PS) and peak torque of 275Nm (203 lb-ft).

A six speed manual gearbox drives the front wheels with the French carmaker quoting 0-100 km/h (62mph) acceleration in less than 7 seconds, 0-1,000m (0.62 miles) in 27 seconds and 80-120km/h (50-75mph) in fifth-gear in less than 7 seconds. Peugeot has not yet released the car's top speed or fuel economy numbers, though it did reveal that it emits 145g/km of C02.

To celebrate the launch of the car, Peugeot will offer a fully-specified Limited Edition version adorned in an exclusive Satin Pearlescent White paint and 17-inch wheels fitted with red aluminum caps, while the lower bar of the front grille will bear the colors of the French flag. Inside, the special edition will come equipped with Satellite Navigation, a HiFi Pack, and a numbered plaque.

The new 208 GTi will go on sale in Europe in the spring of 2013.

I like it.

2013 Peugeot 208 Type R5

Peugeot Sport Teases New 208 Type R5 Racer with 280HP
We only get a single darkened picture of the 208 Type R5 that sports Peugeot's racing colors (in case you didn't notice, there's a thin yellow line between those BMW M stripes), but the carmaker has released initial details on the vehicle that will compete in the upcoming R5 category, to be launched by FIA in 2013.

The 208 Type R5 is powered by Peugeot's 1.6-liter turbocharged engine rated at 280hp at 6,000rpm and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) at 2,500rpm with a five-speed sequential transmission driving all-four wheels.

"We are aiming for performance which is slightly higher than that of the S2000", says Bertrand Vallat, project leader for the 208 Type R5. "We are starting with the 1.6 l THP, that is already a prize winner. We know that it is reliable and powerful and we can achieve 280 horsepower. We are also aiming for a very high level of durability and reliability: with between 3,000 and 5,000 kilometres (according to the components and conditions), which will also reduce the operating costs."

Peugeot Sport's new competition model will begin a test program at the end of 2012 on both asphalt and gravel surfaces before it goes on sale in the second half of 2013. It will be able to compete in various rallies including the Intercontinental Rally Challenge, the European Rally Championship and national championships.

So far so good.
