All-New 2013 Volkswagen Golf Mk7: This is Really It, First Official Photos
It's been a long and frustrating journey for those of us following the developments on the seventh generation of the Volkswagen Golf these past few months, but finally, we have the first official images of the new compact hatchback that was revealed today in Berlin ahead of its public debut at next month's Paris Motor Show.

As anticipated, the exterior styling of the Mk7 is an evolution of the familiar Golf shape with the characteristic thick C-Pillars that has been around for decades with some new touches such as the small corner window on the front doors and the sharp line of the rear doors.

What really separates the Mk7 from its predecessor is what you can’t see and in particular, the new MQB platform shared with other models in the VW Group such as the new 2013 Audi A3 and Seat Leon.

While larger in dimensions and more spacious that the outgoing Golf, the new model is up to 100kg / 220 lbs lighter. VW recently told us that the 2013 Golf will be available with several new engines including the EA211 turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder direct injection petrol unit with cylinder deactivation that produces 138hp (140PS).

Never cared for the Golf.

Comparing that to my mk6 golf i can see is a much bigger car. The lighter weight and much nicer interiror is a defenite welcome.

But will i ever own another VW? Maybe a Scirocco.

Update!

Volkswagen and the Seven Golfs
If there is one car that can be compared to the Porsche 911 for using the same recipe for close to four decades, it is the Volkswagen Golf.

In a way, this is ironic since the 911 was derided by its detractors as a “posh Beetle” while recently, the VW Group, which has a long history with Porsche, acquired the Stuttgart sports car maker.

Even though VW never officially numbered each generation, motoring journalists and the public started, at some point, referring to Golfs as Mk1, 2 etc. With 29.13 million units sold through the end of July this year, the Wolfsburg-based automaker finally accepted the numbering system “officially” only right after the launch of the seventh generation.

Update!

New Volkswagen GTI Images Appear
These photos, which leaked online from a number of sources this morning, allegedly show the new GTI “concept” which will debut later this week. According to reports, the new GTI will use the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder from the 2013 Audi S3 tuned to 217 hp, modest 17-hp bump from the current GTI. However, the MkVII GTI should feel much faster, thanks to an extra 50 lb-ft of torque and a reportedly lighter curb weight than the current car’s 3034 pounds. Auto Express reports that the GTI will now make the sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds, down from 6.9 seconds.

Those damn seats. :puke:

Yeah I know the plaid has heritage and all but those seats are why I went with a year old used that was loaded with leather rather than new.

It is an impressive engineering for it to be bigger yet lighter and more powerful. But power is never the problem with GTi; is the damn steering feel that's the biggest problem (yes, there are many problems with VW Golf, one which can brings fear to own one).

Don't get me wrong, the golf does steers nicely in the context of easy to drive, and is quite responsive. Yet all the time you turn the steering wheel there is never a direct feel to it between each turns of the steering. It is in my upmost opinion the Achilles heel of VW Golf.

Right now I've done quite a lot to my VW Golf TSi twincharger. But I fear I am halucinating myself that I can make it steer as razor sharp as my Celica...
