SLC leads Merc expansion
Mercedes-Benz boss Dieter Zetsche has gone public on an ambitious programme that will launch 10 new and 22 heavily upgraded and/or facelifted models into the five market segments the German manufacturer operates in before the end of 2015.

Mercedes will retain its traditional core models, such as the C, E and S-classes, and all their current variants, but will significantly extend its reach at the lower end of its line-up. It will also build on its luxury car portfolio to replace the Maybach models that are due to be phased out within the next two years.

Chief among the additional new models Mercedes is exploring is a new Porsche 911 rival, called the SLC. The new sports car is scheduled for launch in 2014 and has a projected price of £75,000. The evocatively styled two-door has been conceived as a joint exercise between Mercedesí regular passenger car department and its performance car division, AMG.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG 911-rival confirmed – report
BY BRETT DAVIS IN AMG, MERCEDES-BENZ, NEWS ON APRIL 26, 2012 AT 9:39 AM

Mercedes-Benz and AMG are working on a Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG coupe which will take on the likes of the Porsche 911. The new model will be like a junior version of the SLS AMG gullwing.

Similar to the SLS AMG, the SLC is set to be an AMG standalone model, showcasing a clear focus on performance and sportiness. Up until now the model was still only being considered, but according to Auto Express in the UK, production has been confirmed.

Specific details on the car remain a bit of a mystery at this early stage. Reports speculate a few engine possibilities, including a new 4.0-litre V8, to a more fuel-efficient V6. Regardless of the engine, the SLC is set to adopt a front mid-engine layout feeding power to the rear wheels.

Unlike the SLS AMG, the SLC won’t feature the dramatic up-swinging gullwing doors. It’s understood AMG will be aiming to keep unnecessary costs to a minimum to help the SLC sit in the market with a very competitive price (around the $AUD180,000-$200,000 mark).

The new model is expected to hit the showrooms in 2014. Stay tuned for more updates.
Mercedes I believe have more coups than sedans now, they are on a roll and every new model seems to be a winner from merc.
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed to a UK car magazine that it will launch a compact all-wheel-drive sports car to take on the Porsche 911.

The sports car has been anticipated as one of the numerous new models to be spun off the company’s new ‘MFA’ modular platform that underpins the recently released Mercedes-Benz B-Class and will sit beneath the next-generation A-Class due here in early 2013, as well as a compact four-door ‘coupe’ and a baby SUV that will take on the Audi Q3 and BMW X1.

Autocar magazine reports the chief of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler, Dr Dieter Zetsche, hinted that a baby SLS, which will reportedly be called the Mercedes-Benz SLC, would be one of 32 new or significantly updated models the German car maker would launch before 2016.

Due to launch in 2014, the two-door SLC will be priced around £75,000, roughly the same price as the new 911 Carrera, which starts at £71,499. In Australia, the 257kW/390Nm Porsche 911 Carrera is priced from $229,900, which gives an indication of where Mercedes’ sports car is likely to be positioned if it is introduced to out market.

The MFA platform supports both front- and all-wheel-drive layouts, but insiders indicated to CarAdvice the SLC would only be available with all-wheel-drive underpinnings.

Autocar says the SLC is being developed jointly by Mercedes-Benz’s regular passenger car division and its sports-oriented AMG branch.

AMG has already been involved in the overall development of the Mercedes-Benz A-Class hatchback, and there will be an AMG-badged model included in the range.

Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG: first taste of Porsche 911 rival
By Tim Beissmann | June 13th, 2012

.

A Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG test mule has been spied near the Nurburgring, giving us our first taste of the German manufacturer’s upcoming Porsche 911 rival.

Disguised with the body panels of the SLS AMG supercar, the Mercedes SLC will be roughly 150mm shorter than its big brother, riding on a more compact platform and sporting a shorter front overhang.

.

Due in 2014, the SLC Coupe will trade the SLS AMG’s gullwing doors for conventional fixtures, reducing development and production costs and making it easier for manufacturer to create the soft-top SLC Roadster spin-off, which is expected to join the line-up by 2016.

Our spy photographers said this SLC mule was spotted at AMG’s test centre just outside the Nurburgring where it has been undergoing serious engine and chassis testing.

.

The SLC’s powertrain details remain a mystery at this stage. Some international reports have suggested it will come standard with a V8, ranging in size from a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre to a naturally aspirated 5.5-litre, while others believe Mercedes will offer a budget version with a less powerful but more fuel efficient V6.

The Mercedes-Benz SLC is expected to be priced from £75,000, roughly the same price as the entry-level Porsche 911 Carrera, which starts at $229,900 in Australia.

Mercedes-Benz GT AMG sets sights on Porsche 911

Mercedes' new rear-wheel-drive coupé will be powered by a 520bhp V8 engine when it goes on sale in the UK next April

The Mercedes-Benz GT AMG, the firm's new 500bhp-plus V8-powered sports car, has entered the final phase of testing. The public debut of the rear-wheel-drive coupé is planned for the Paris motor show in October.

The exclusive computer-generated rendering shown above is based on recent spy photographs of the aluminium-bodied two-seater running at the Nürburgring circuit. The new Mercedes-Benz, which goes under the codename ‘C190’, is set to go on sale
in the UK next April.

The new GT will be priced to compete directly against the likes of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and Porsche 911 Carrera S, at about £100,000 - a considerable £70,000 less than the outgoing SLS.

Details remain scarce, but sources close to the German car maker say that it will support a number of different outputs, ranging from 480bhp to more than 580bhp. The initial model is set to offer about 520bhp - some 50bhp less than the naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 used by the SLS. But with forced induction helping to swell reserves at lower revs, the new engine is set to produce considerably more torque
than the SLS’s 415lb ft.

Power goes through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox mounted within the rear axle assembly. The Getrag-produced unit is carried over from the SLS but upgraded with new electronic mapping and other unspecified changes, providing what one AMG insider has described to Autocar as “faster and smoother operation under all conditions”. Also included is a mechanical locking differential and the latest electronically controlled torque vectoring.

The GT will be assembled at AMG’s Affalterbach factory in Germany. Mercedes hasn’t divulged expected volumes,
but officials are confident that the GT will sell in higher numbers than the SLS.

What we have here are the very first official photos of the interior of Mercedes' upcoming AMG GT sports coupe that were handed over by the automaker to German magazine AutoMotorundSport. Mercedes officials have not yet revealed the car's designation in public, but one has to assume that along with the imagery, they also confirmed the name.

Here's more recent footage of the AMG GT being tested on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. These shots were made on the 11th of April 2014. The one seen on track is actually the same one as we spied on the 27th of March 2014, but it lost most of its camouflage and is now driving with much less camouflage. You can actually see two AMG GT's in this video. Notice the license plates on the cars, the car seen on track is a different one to the one seen on the road.
