Will 50% tint help keep some heat out of the car during summer? I was thinking of doing 35% up front, but it's still noticeable, and I don't wanna get hassled by the cops (illegal to tint front windows in NJ). I'm just wondering if it's worth it or not. I'm not going for appearance or anything, I just wanna keep the car cool during summer. BTW, I'll be getting 20% on the rear three windows. Anyone have pics of 50% anywhere on their car? Thanks.

i would suggest get 35% in the front of you don't want to get troubled by the cops. 50% is too light for my taste. Especially if your getting 20% in the back and 50% in the front it will look kind of weird. Im from CA where it is also illegal to get the front two windows tinted and cops wont really hassle you for 35%. 20% up in the front they might give you some trouble. Ive gotten pulled over recently for having 13% all around. I got my ticket signed off couple of days ago so im going to retint my car today with 20% up in the front.

So you're pretty much saying it won't block out any heat? Like I said, I'm not going for looks, so how light it will be doesn't make a difference. I just wanna keep as much heat out of the car as I can without attracting the cops.

you should ask drunkentiger. he has 50% in the front and 35% in the back.

I have 45% front.. and rest in 5% limo..
It's very little noticeable...
but with 35% front.. it's pretty noticeable...
From outside... it has slight shade so it's not easily seen inside... having 5% makes it darker....
With 45%... it'll cut down just little but... it helps....
Especially with UV rays... when you look up close.. copy will not tell the difference.....

35 is what i got all around and it does keep the car much cooler than when i didnt have any tint at all. its dark enough to block out a little sun in direct sun light, and light enough to not be too much of a hassel at night. should be what your lookin for.

Very old thread.

But I have 20% in the back. I just thought 5% would look ghetto because I have no tint on the front windows (don't want to get pulled over). It keeps out some light but you can see good at night. I've owned limo 5% tint before and it's very difficult.

Legal limit in MA is 35% all around which is what I intend on doing =).

I was thinking about getting a 40-45% tint for the two fronts and the rears. I want the benefit of having the tint, but not get hassled whatsoever.

Here in Hawaii 35% is the darkest legal limit for front and side windows. I plan on getting the full 35%, because the sun in Hawaii wrecks havoc on a car's interior.

I had 35% on the fronts and didn't get hassled until it was time for inspection.

On my veedub, I had two layers of tint what they called neutral and limo behind it. Neutral film reflected a lot of the UV rays and the limo made it dark. I was pulled over in South Beach after two years of having it. The light meter read .05 or 5% LOL. Hence limo tint!!

Sometimes the meter could read lower then the tint is rated.

Got pulled over and has limo 5%, it measured about 2%.
