Their reply,

Dear Ken,

We are very interested in making products for the new Celica's! Tell me
what you would like to see produced? I haven't had a chance to get me hands
onone for prototyping, but maybe you could help me out and in turn, help all
new Celica owners out! Please contact me (909) 592 - 4311 or e-mail
[email protected] anytime. I am more than willing to help bring this
great car to new levels. Thanks for your interest and hope to hear from you
soon.

Regards,

We got a lead, I'm going to ask if they can produce some sleeves for us. It would be nice to have sleeves that can be bored out a bit. If anyone has a block they can spare for a prototype, hit them up. I'll be back wtih more information.

Unity112,
Awesome work, as always! Hey, what other companies are you thinking of contacting? Can you post up a list w/ contact numbers? I'm sure other members here, including myself would be down to help you call/email these guys, if ya want.

Sleeves to accomodate a larger bore methinks. Larry! Once again this one is for you!!!

Yep, sleeves to accomodated larger bore sizes. Brian Nutter (Wiseco) as well as I am are interested in what kind of bores our Celica's can take. Hes willing to make custom pistons just to fit these bores too.

The bore pitch (distance between cylinder centerlines) for the ZZ engine family is 87.5mm. So the bore on a ZZ engine has to be smaller than 87.5mm (I don't know how close to a 87.5mm bore you can safely go).

I did read Rado's Celica will use a 83.5mm bore (up from 82mm stock).

As I think my engine will always be normally aspirated, I'd like to know how much boring and stroking could be performed on the ZZ engine family, too.

Put simply sleeves are your cylinder wall. Boring is the process of making those bigger, and resleeving is completly changing those sleeves (usually either for engine rebuilding or going overbore)

Going overbore leads to bigger displacement. Many tuners use this method because you can keep the same compression ratio, and stroke, but just with added displacement (ie. B20 motors).

Celica motor big bores!

If the distance between centers is in fact 87.5mm, then you could safely go 84.5 mm for race only all-motor stuff. Probable 83-83.5mm for turbo and street use! Rulse of thumb, distance between centers minus 3mm is the biggest bore you can run for race only all motor stuff. Turbo or street use is then minus 1mm from that! Get it? Got it!

So if you took it out to 83MM what would be the resulting displacement?

To get the displacement, I would need to know the stroke of the motor, then I could get the overall displacement. If you can, also let me know what the stock specs are of the entire motor. Thanks.

If you need any more detail than this I don't have it readily available.

Increasing the bore size 1mm ( 83mm ) will result in a 46cc increase taking it from 1796cc to 1842cc or 1.842 Liters. Not alot, but noticable. The way this motor looks, most of your power upgrading is going to be from stroking or boosting, both of which are beneficial to have beefier sleeves in anyways!

I agree, as a standalone mod it wouldn't be worth the time or money. If it were purely linear (CC = HP) that would give you approx 4.6HP more. Thanks for the info.
