by the way my car is at 63k
It would be a good idea. I flushed mine twice: once at 30k and recently at 60k. Man what a difference.

What kind of difference do you see Lightningrod? And how much did it cost you?
Right around 30k and 60k, my transmission would make this cranking sound as though it needed to be lubricated or something. It wasn't loud, but definitely noticeable. Actually, when I had the fluid flushed, the other Toyotas that were pulling in made the same noise, so it's probably normal. Anyways, before I the flush, take-off was sluggish, like the transmission couldn't find 1st gear and would start in 2nd instead. But AFTER, it felt as though it was brand-new all over again, and that God-awful cranking sound went away.

My only gripe: it costs $114 at the dealer. :(

I made a thread about this not too long ago ... you can't DIY because you would need a special machine to flush all the fluid out, unless you don't mind changing the tranny fluid every 5000 miles or so.
well since you have a dipstick, then you must have an auto. that is a major job to flush the fluid cause you need to drain the torque converter. i dont know if the fluid can pass through?
It can't. You can drain some of it, but not ALL of it. The rest needs to be flushed out.
So if i pay the dealer 120 dollars( which the coupons), they will flush all that junk out or just some of it?
When my celica first is started and i take up it has some problems shifting in the 35-45 miles per hourse range. It just revs until its warm enough. Is this normal. It only has 29000 miles and auto. Should i have a toyota dealership do a tranny flush or someone else?

All of it. Theoretically, that is.

In my cases, I felt and heard a difference afterwards, so I'm confident they're doing their jobs.

As much as I hate giving Toyota my money, I trust them more than any other privately-owned shop.

Any suggestion on this? It happen again tonight. Its about 40 degrees. At about 48 miles per hour it revs steady at 3000 to 3100 until a certain time then shifts all the way down. Its under warrenty still so any recomendations?

Of Course man!!! you have to flush it or your tranny will be short lived. I changed mune every 20,000km /13,000miles. you wouldn't believe the color of the used tranny fluid (maybe cos' we live in dirty environment here) it is like deep purple color.

I used Toyota ATF Type IV.... and no problem whatsoever.
^^^U flush yours every 13,000 miles or fill and drain? I just got mine flush at the dealer for 170 dollars!!!DAMN!!! its more b/c we uses TYPE IV fluid. i don't want to pay that much every 13,000 miles.
hey sprinter, i think i share the same problem with you. When i start the car and drive, it won't go pass third gear until the engine warms up a little.
^Yeah and it drives me nuts!!! Today i drove my old honda to school--We have 20 degrees and snow out of nowhere!!!! :thumbdown
pay the dealer to do it.

Smaay, My GTS got 92K miles never changed the coolant. what u think drain change the therm. and refill or do i need a actual coolant flush?
i just change my atf oil.... only used it for about 15k km... last me only 5 month....
the oil burns out rather easily, when i change the oil i notice the smell have even change ... when the oil is burned/no longer have its properties the oil transmission check light will not come on, instead when you shift to M mode the M will blink thats when you have to control of the gearing even in M mode, and thats when you know its time to change your atf oil
i dont think you have to flush your tranny every 13k miles .. the tranny filter is made out of wire mesh. regular change of atf oil will be good enough.i change my atf oil every 10k km about 6k miles... and only change my at filter every 35k km thats about 20k miles....cost of 4l of toyota type4 oil over here is about rm 90 thats usd 25.

That is absolutely normal, it's designed that way, the ECAT will not allow a shift into 4th gear O/D if certain temperature parameters are not met. It's been like that in most Toyota trannys with electric/electronic O/D. I have a 1984 Toyota Crown with an A43DL and it's like that. At work we have two 2005 Yaris sedans and they're like that too.
Or you can have a trans shop weld a tap on your torque convertor so you can drain it when you drain your trans pan.
