Best shocks/springs??

2220 Views 38 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  celicatsport
What shock/spring combination is considered to be the best for both performance and quality. I'm not going to bother with the coliover option because I'm never going to track my car so the extra cost will be unecessary.

I'm leaning towards Tein because they are easy to get hold of in the UK.

Any thoughts?

Hotchkis springs have the highest spring rate of any off the shelf conventional lowering spring. They are pretty cheap too. I'd go with Hotchkis and KYB AGX or KONI.
I have a set of Hotchkis I will sell you if interested.
Thanks for offer but I'd rather buy new

LOL, ok I have no idea why but hey it is your money.
Koni Yellow struts + Skunk2 or Ground Control adjustable springs

are you sure about this. what are the drops and front and rear rates. i am sure they aren't progressive if they are ignore answering my question
here's the thing about the Hotchkis springs, if you get them with kyb's or something like that you run the risk of prematurely wearing the struts out. You'd need Koni custom struts (or something like that). I do have a set of brand new Hotchkis springs though if you are interested. I only opened the box to check for damage. I've decided to go the cheaper route and get the tokico shock/spring package myself.
How about you tell us what you DO use the car for?
Honestly, you really want to know the best mod, "Leave the damn thing alone and don't waste your money LOL."
I guess theres no one answer then. Moneys not really an issue so much as quality.

I don't track the car so I'm not looking for racing car suspension, but I want it LOW whilst maintaing as much ride quality as possible. It'll be dropped on 18s, so obviously looks are coming into the equation some what.

Im in the process of purchasing this setup. From reading around and checking, I think this is best buck setup for someone on budget (ideally college student or spirited driver enthusiast) and a day or two at the track every now & then. If your not in a rush, I'd save up for coilovers though(otherwise AGX/Tein)... Just my .02.
im looking for struts... whats the best out there? i mean i have TRD springs... should i go with TRD struts? or KYB?
KYB will cost you a lot less than TRD for a similar product.

Get KYB agx's if you want adjustable or gr-2's if not.

I'd stay with springs/struts if you want ride comfort. Coilovers seem to be too stiff for a lot of people, especially with 18s.

Koni Yellows are the best struts. KYB AGX is next, and then KYB GR-2 (exactly the same as TRD) and Tokico.
I also read on the forum that installing aftermarket struts lowers ur cars maybe a inch or so...? is that true?
depends on the strut from what I hear, but I'm not sure.
so koni yellows are the best struts - what springs are the best match to these struts?
What are you planning to do? If you want some competitive shocks, get a set of Koni Yellows and send them in to get modified to be double adjustable. They'd be better than most OTS coilover setups.
