video engine rattle, not liftbolt?

ok i edited this, thread. the noise got to loud so i can actually record it now. and its not from below its comming from the charger, engine,or starter. still not sure what it is. it sounds diffrent than a broken lift bolt. heres the video.

you only hear it start at 3.7k rpm and less around 4.5 k rpm. my friend in the car was revving it up and down as you can see. any ideas. unfortunatly i dont want to move the car now, since it sounds really bad.

well, i watched and listened. i have no idea whats making that noise. but it does look like the belts are close to that AC line. if the car was here i could do better.

sounds like the belt is rubbing on something, check the hoses around the belts and make sure they arent touching

Yeah it definitely sounds like the belt is hitting something.

As for why it only occurs in that RPM range, I think it's because different objects have different resonance frequencies ... in this case, your engine running between 3700 and 4500 RPM creates that ideal frequency that causes whatever it is to vibrate, coming in contact with the belt and making that awful sound.

I'm probably wrong though.

yeah, dude i been looking at it and moving things around, i tried lubricating the belt, but no, its not the belt. the video doesnt do it justice. its a rattle sound, kind of like if their was a loose bolt or something. if you where to put a hex nut inside something thats spins kinda like a blender. thats what it sounds like. well i guess monday i should find out. with a type of theta scope the mechanincs use maybe we can pinpoint where its comming from.

Ok I'm throwing this a little bit far, but I'm just trying to help think out loud: could it be your waterpump impeller? When I did the rebuild on my engine the impeller of the waterpump (I think it's ceramic, or some type of hard plastic) was broken. Could be the case with yours and it's rubbing against the housing.

Could be the alternator bracket. Gravel's broke shortly after installation -- you might PM him for advice.

yeah that was actually my first thought. but everything is secured tightly. i will actually try to figure it out tommorow if i have a chance.

^^^ so if i take off the belt i could give this a try up to 3-4 k rpm? battery should be good without the alternator for a while right? hmmm i like that idea.

thanks.

no charger, ac, alternator.... those where my first predictions as to where this noise was comming from.

ecelica, u need to get ur valve cover painted. you could have a kickass bay with the very slick greddy in there, but the dirty, nasty, crappy valve cover without the plastic overlay looks bad so please get it powder coated!

yeah i know, and i need to organize the cables also. so much to do, such a limited fund for my car at the moment, so many things i want..... well actually i hope to get a couple things going first for my car before i go into making it look good again. you havent seen the body, the valve cover is the least of my worries.

i will look into that tommorow, thanks whiteknight!

ok i went to the tuner shop, we had a look at it, lifted the car up since we couldnt pin point the noise from under the hood. took of the belt and the noise was still noticable. tuner ended up saying it was either the rod bearings/pistons issue.

they are bussy so they wont have a chance to work on it untill next week. so no celica for a while. they even said worse case scenerio they will have to drop the engine and look at the block...... @##@%

i saw jesse comment on his issue with a spun rod bearing and said if thats the case --->

,"
IMO, its just easier to go with another shortblock in this case"

if they have to drop the engine what should i consider ?? pistons, sleeves, rods,... that would kick ass on my greddy charge? MW has a stroker kit with this compression and thinks it would work well for my charger 10.75:1 compression

i remmember someone saying a build engine& and the charger just dont mix. any advice?
