lots of dirt and dust gets stuck under the bra and it will ruin your paint over time.. I wouldn't do it..

What you may want to look into are clear bra applications. I know 3M has a direct application for both stock bumper types, and depending on your area there may be shops that can apply a custom application to cover the mirrors or even simple aftermarket bumpers. With something like this, you would get the added road protection without sacrificing aesthetic appeal.

But would it get dirt and stuff under it and ruin your paint?

Though my car it doesn't matter. I've noticed from rocks or something (maybe even under previous owner) there are small chips in the paint on my hood... deep enough the areas are starting to rust even :(.

If you have a stock body 00 celica I have a Le Bra brand Celica Bra that I no longer use (due to the fact that I have a body kit now and it no longer fits).

My experience in using it is if you are going to go on a long trip or something then put it on. Keeping it on is not a problem but just make sure that you remove it and wash/wax under the covered area as well. Anyway here is a photo of it if you are interested send me a PM and we can work out a price.

I wish I had personal experience to share but from what I've read up on it most say that as long as it is applied properly it won't affect the paint(fade paint differently). Some people even swear by them. I do know that most manufacturers suggest that you take the same precautions with the bra as you would your clearcoat such as applying a carnuba wax to maintain it. I know I'm going to seriously look into a custom application when my car goes in for some body work this fall. I wouldnt want my future lip kit to fall victim to the horrible road conditions in my area...damn gravel..

clear bra is good till it yellows and gets ugly, then has to be sanded off and the area refinished and repainted. :(

Seriously? Thanks for the input. That is very good to know. Kinda glad I didn't put it on my motorcycle when I was thinking about doing that to protect the tank from my tank bag (magnetic tank bag. My tank already has a few scratches/chips from it. Ah well, gotta have some way to carry my lunch and stuff to work and really no way to do that without risking the paint).

I have a different version w/o that obnoxious striping. It does help keep stuff out of the AC condensor. It also does help protect from rock chips. However, the seams on the back side rub and scar the paint. It does trap crap underneath it. If I remember rightly, the LeBra is only available for the '00-'02 and they don't make one that will fit the TRD bumper.

The 3M ones are a decent alternative. However, any rock hits capable of digging into paint are also likely to dig into the 3M.

Pick your poison.

I did extensive research on the 3M. I have a black car, so the yellowing was less of a concern. The dealbreaker for me was in realizing the "kit" for the Celica is in like...24 pieces due to the curvature of the nose. Even the hood was in 2 pieces, so seams are apparent from about 10' or less. The installer did brag that he could take a hard blade and drag it over the 3M panel with no damage!

Regardless - this just didnt work for me, and the price was the same or higher than a premium paint job at a good shop...there's a reason the 3M process hasnt caught on like wildfire folks...

I found a body shop that repainted my entire front end, and applied what they said was a 'soft' clear coat, which rocks and road debris actually kind of bounce off, rather than gouge and mar the finish.

I'm 8 months in and it looks factory fresh!
