Help. Here is the problem. Yup, already did a search for the last three
days. Climate control lights do not come on, radio lights, lighter
and shifter lights all work. They all work with the dimmer. All fuses
were checked and appeared to be intact. One a/c bulb
appeared to be dead, so i went to my local electronics shop and bought
two 12v LEDs. Took the dead bulbs out of the plastic holder, replaced
the bulbs, ran the wire through and around the plastic holder and...Nothing
happened. Did the splice mod into the lighter wire and hooked it to the radio
mount bolt and .... nothing. Went to the dealer today and as the posts
indicated, they wanted to sell me the whole board for $78. :bs:
Questions:
1. Is the bulb in fact a 12 volt bulb? If it isn't that might explain
why it isn't working...
2. If it is a 12v bulb, I plan to hard wire it into the lighter bulb
wiring unless someone thinks that idea stinks... Comments?

Thanks for all your prior posts, they gave me a lot of advice.

Did you check the multi-fuses.....you have four of them, they have 6 prongs each. The are in the center consoll next to the passengers left foot.

I think one of the 7.5 amp ones do the HVAC lighting

If those check out, take a multimeter and check if you have current going to the bulb mounts, If so then you have bad bulbs, if not..........?

Yes, i checked the fuzes (both of the big ones), will use the voltmeter
to check the contact area where the bulbs screw into the board.
If voltage reading is 12v (what is it with the dimmer turned down
low i wonder) will call the fuzes good and the bulbs bad.

remember that you need the LEDs in the correct polarity... bulbs are 12V... dimmer controls the return path to ground... it will read 12V if you measure on the + side of the bulbs...

2-Way,
I was sitting at work today doddling on a piece of paper when i realized that. I came
home and hooked a voltmeter to the board and identified pos and neg. Checked my
light bulbs and i had had them both backwards. (Odds on both???). Lights work
fine, and the cost was $2.60 for the bulbs. Linbrose Super Bright LED, 12v, 5mm.
Will see how well they do tonite in the dark. I read your other posts about the work
around and i agree with you. Better to find the problem and then resolve the other
issues. Again, thanks to all for your previous posts, and your help.

 on fixing your problem.

If your an RN... of course you'd think that;) The console light issue problem, I believe, has been solved & the solution posted:D. Unfortunately... no one has confirmed it to work, yet... and... I'll be damned if I can find where I put the left over transistors:( But, another member has just ordered 2 to fix his & a buddy's car... so it should be confirmed soon enough:)

Yup, RN in Surgery. Are you a member of AARL? Saw your handle and wondered.
I am studying my book for a tech license right now and am glad that they did
away with the code. I learned morse a million years ago in the scouts, and
only remember SOS.

Treat the cause, not the symptoms - holds true in electronics, too.

Best of luck. You might be surprised @ the large # of folks in the medical professions that have licenses. I don't really use mine... something about doing it for a living.... that & being a professional vs. an amateur. I suck @ code... managed to get my Tech+... I should go back & get my General... seeing how I already have the code cert. for 5wpm.
